Curaçao and Côte d'Ivoire meet on 25 June 2026 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia in a must win Group E fixture for both sides. Germany are already through after two wins, so the race for second is wide open: Ivory Coast sit on three points, Curaçao and Ecuador share one each and third place could still advance depending on overall group rankings. Ivory Coast need a win to secure their place in the round of 32, whereas Curaçao, playing in their first World Cup, cannot afford to lose ground.

Dick Advocaat and Emerse Faé have never met in a competitive fixture and have no shared history to draw on, so both coaches are leaning entirely on current form and tactical preparation. Advocaat came out of retirement in May 2026 to guide Curaçao through the final qualifying stages, while Faé became the first Ivorian coach to take his country to a World Cup after steering them to AFCON 2024 success, arriving in the United States with a squad unbeaten through qualifying and a settled pressing structure built around pace in behind.

Curaçao have one point from two matches, earned through a 0-0 draw against Ecuador after a heavy defeat to Germany. The draw demonstrated their defensive discipline: Eloy Room was excellent in goal and the back five were well organised throughout. Ivory Coast, meanwhile, snatched three points when Amad Diallo scored in the 90th minute to beat Ecuador 1-0, then lost 2-1 to Germany despite Kessié pulling one back. A 4-0 win over South Korea in pre tournament play showed how quickly their attack can dismantle a high line, with Diomandé and Diallo combining to carve the Koreans open repeatedly, though the Germany performance was a reminder that Faé's side can be exposed when pressed high.

Curaçao are set to name the same side that drew with Ecuador, with Locadia fit to start and Advocaat sticking with the back five built around the Bacuna brothers and Room that frustrated Ecuador for 90 minutes. Ivory Coast are without Wilfried Singo through injury, with Faé likely to deploy a 4-1-4-1 with Amad Diallo running in behind on the right and Oumar Diomandé as the focal point up front.

Curaçao will set up as they did against Ecuador: compact defensive lines, the back five protecting Room and quick transitions through Tahith Chong and Juninho Bacuna when they win possession. Faé wants high tempo pressing in return, with Ibrahim Sangaré and Kessié looking to play vertical passes early and Diallo finding pockets in behind the last line. The midfield battle between Curaçao's Livano Comenencia and Leandro Bacuna and the Ivory Coast pair of Kessié and Sangaré is likely to decide how much space opens up in behind. Brenet and Floranus at wing back will have their hands full with Diallo, while Kossounou and Agbadou need to stay tight on Locadia.

Curaçao showed against Ecuador that they are dangerous from dead balls, with the Bacuna brothers' delivery and Armando Obispo's aerial presence a consistent threat at corners and free kicks. Warm conditions in Philadelphia will test stamina in the second half: Curaçao were noticeably leggy in the closing stages against Germany and if that repeats here, the space in behind should open up for Diallo late on.

Côte d'Ivoire 2-1 Curaçao. Ivory Coast showed against Ecuador that they can win ugly when the pressure is on and the midfield superiority of Kessié and Sangaré should eventually prise open gaps that Curaçao's back five could not sustain indefinitely against Germany either. Curaçao's delivery from dead balls and Obispo in the air mean a clean sheet is far from certain and Ivory Coast's tendency to drop off when ahead makes a Curaçao goal more than plausible.
