Sarajevo vs Inter Turku Prediction: Bosnians Host Finnish Attackers in Conference League Opener

Detailed analysis of the UEFA Europa Conference League first qualifying round first leg between FK Sarajevo and FC Inter Turku on July 9 2026.

Sarajevo
2-2
Inter Turku
Inter Turku

FK Sarajevo host FC Inter Turku at the Olimpijski Stadion Asim Ferhatović Hase on 9 July 2026 in the first leg of a UEFA Europa Conference League first qualifying round tie, with the winner advancing to the second round.

Sarajevo finished third in the 2025/26 Bosnian Premier League, winning 19 of their 36 games and collecting 65 points, 10 off the title. Inter Turku arrive with 30 points from 15 Veikkausliiga games, unbeaten in 13 and having scored at least twice in 10 of those outings. This is not a side that will come to Bosnia and sit back.

Zoran Zekić returned for a second stint as Sarajevo manager on 9 June 2026 under a contract running to May 2027, having won a domestic cup in his previous spell. Vesa Vasara has been Inter Turku's manager since January 2024, holding a win rate of around 54 per cent from roughly 89 matches. The two have never faced each other before, which strips away any tactical read from previous meetings.

Sarajevo come in having finished third, 10 points off the title, with no European wins in recent qualifying campaigns and a 2-1 friendly result that tells you very little about what to expect here. Inter Turku, unbeaten in 13 with at least two goals in 10 of those games, are the side arriving with real momentum.

Sarajevo are without Rafail Mamas in defensive midfield until September after a cruciate ligament tear. Goalkeeper Faris Mehic is also working his way back from a shoulder injury and both absences hit areas where Sarajevo will be under sustained pressure from a side pressing as high as Inter Turku do. Inter Turku have no notable fitness concerns and should field their strongest side, while Zekić is expected to set Sarajevo up with attacking intent.

Tactically, the central question is how Sarajevo's depleted midfield copes with Inter Turku's high press. Vasara's side floods the wide channels through their 4-3-3, pulling midfielders out of position and leaving gaps in the half spaces that their attackers are built to exploit. Sarajevo's midfielders will need to stay compact and disciplined, because the spaces that open up when they are drawn wide are precisely where Inter Turku do their damage and a side that has scored at least twice in 10 of their last 15 league games does not need much of an invitation.

These clubs have never met before, so there is no historical data to draw from and Inter Turku will need to be well organised at dead balls away from home, given that a high pressing side concedes space in behind that a disciplined home side can look to exploit.

The score prediction is 2-2. Sarajevo should get something going early but Inter Turku have scored at least twice in 10 of their last 15 league games and a Bosnian third place side is unlikely to shut them out entirely, even at home, particularly with the injury situation at the back. Inter Turku's scoring rate makes a clean sheet for Sarajevo unlikely and Sarajevo's home record gives them enough to get on the scoresheet, making a draw the most defensible call, with the second leg at Inter Turku's ground carrying its own dynamic.
