Vasco da Gama host Barracas Central at Estádio São Januário on 27 May 2026 in the final round of Copa Sudamericana Group G. Olimpia have already sewn up first place on 10 points, leaving Vasco second on seven alongside Audax Italiano. Win or draw and they are through to the knock out play off round, lose and the Chileans could leapfrog them on goal difference. Barracas arrive bottom of the group and already eliminated.
Renato Gaúcho has been in charge at São Januário since March 2026 following Fernando Diniz's February exit, while Rubén Darío Insúa has managed Barracas Central since September 2024 and the two have no meaningful prior meetings in the dugout.

Vasco's recent results have been ugly in patches. A 1-3 loss to Olimpia in this competition and a 1-4 hammering by Internacional in Série A are not numbers that inspire confidence though they did advance in the Copa do Brasil after a 2-2 draw with Paysandu. São Januário offers more solidity but away from home the form has been poor. Barracas have not found it any easier, having lost 0-2 to Audax Italiano and 1-2 to Olimpia through the group stage while managing three draws and a loss in their last four league outings in Argentina, with goals scarce throughout their Sudamericana campaign.
No major injuries or suspensions have been reported for either side. Gaúcho is expected to name an attacking line up at home while Insúa will likely stick with the defensive group that has conceded only three goals across three group games.
Vasco under Gaúcho are set up to dominate at São Januário and should generate chances against a Barracas side that typically retreats into a 5-4-1 low block. The central midfield battle is where this one will probably be decided: Barracas anchor Iván Tapia's entire job is to disrupt Vasco's rhythm and he is disciplined enough to make that uncomfortable. Pedro Raul and Vegetti are the attacking threats to watch and if the service is consistent they should find space against a back line that has defended resolutely without yet facing a crowd of São Januário's intensity. Nahuel Barrios and Lucas Gamba will look to punish any loose transitions the other way, with Yonatthan Rak handling the bulk of Barracas' defensive work.

The clubs have met rarely at senior level with records showing one previous draw and no wins for either side, so history offers little. Set pieces are worth watching, though: Gaúcho's side have improved their dead ball delivery in domestic fixtures and Insúa's men have occasionally lost concentration from corners and free kicks when pressure mounts. Barracas have not lost by more than two goals in any group game, which gives a fair sense of how hard they are to break down.
A 1-1 draw is the call. Vasco have a positive home record in this competition and need only a point but Barracas have been disciplined enough throughout this group to take narrow losses rather than thumpings. A single set piece or a momentary lapse in concentration could separate the sides but against a defence this organised and this willing to sit deep, a scrappy share of the spoils that sends Vasco through is the most likely outcome.
