Cruzeiro host Barcelona SC at the Estádio Governador Magalhães Pinto on 29 May 2026, the sixth and final matchday of Copa Libertadores Group D. The Brazilians sit second with eight points from five matches, already through to the round of 16 but still pushing for a better seed. Finishing top of the group rather than second changes the shape of their round of 16 draw considerably, which means Cruzeiro cannot approach this with any real complacency. Barcelona SC are fourth with three points and cannot progress.
The first leg in April ended 1-0 to Cruzeiro, Matheus Pereira with the only goal. This is also the first meeting between Artur Jorge and César Farías in competitive management. Jorge took charge of Cruzeiro in March 2026 having previously guided Botafogo to both domestic and continental glory. Farías arrived at Barcelona SC in January and his tenure has run alongside a difficult group campaign, three points from five games leaving them bottom of the table.

Cruzeiro come into this on the back of a 2-1 win over Chapecoense in Série A on 24 May and at home their pressing and structure tend to do more damage than on the road. Barcelona SC have picked up domestic wins including against Delfín but three points from five Copa games is the summary of their continental campaign.
Cruzeiro are without a large portion of their squad. Goalkeeper Cássio is out with a knee injury and Walace, Kauã Prates, Matheus Henrique, Luis Sinisterra and long term absentee Marquinhos are all sidelined, with Keny Arroyo missing through suspension. That is a disruptive volume of absences across defence and midfield for a team trying to finish the group on top. Barcelona SC have their own problems too: Yaxi García has a broken fibula, Jhonnier Chalá is suspended and Joao Rojas is out injured, so they will lean on a compact back line built around goalkeeper José Contreras and experienced defenders Cristian Báez and Alex Rangel.
Artur Jorge sets Cruzeiro up in a 4-2-3-1 with Gerson controlling tempo from deep and Matheus Pereira operating just behind striker Kaio Jorge, with Fabrício Bruno capable of hurting teams from aerial deliveries at both ends of the pitch. Barcelona SC typically use a 3-5-2 or 4-2-3-1 depending on the opponent, with Sergio Núñez or Marcos Mejía leading the line. Farías will want Matías Lugo and Milton Céliz to squeeze Pereira out of the game in midfield, which is where this match is likely to be decided. The most specific matchup to watch is Kaio Jorge against Báez and Rangel: his pace against two defenders who tend to sit deep rather than step out could be Cruzeiro's clearest route to goal.

These two sides have met only once, Cruzeiro winning the first leg 1-0 through Pereira's goal.
A 1-1 draw. Cruzeiro have the home advantage but the injury list is genuinely disruptive, particularly in a defence that needs to be organised against even a limited Barcelona SC attack. Farías will want Lugo and Céliz to deny Pereira the ball and look for Núñez or Mejía in behind and with Cruzeiro pushing for a second goal, either forward is capable of punishing the gaps that open up.
