The 2026 UEFA Champions League final takes place at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest on 30 May, with PSG defending their title against an Arsenal side appearing in their first final since 2006. For Arsenal, the stakes go beyond the trophy itself. They've already lifted the Premier League for the first time in 22 years and a win here would deliver their first European Cup, making this the most consequential night in the club's modern history. PSG, meanwhile, are chasing back to back titles and arrive in Budapest as the more experienced side on this stage.

Luis Enrique and Mikel Arteta have never faced each other as managers in a fixture of this magnitude, which makes their contrasting approaches genuinely interesting to compare. Enrique favours pressing high and playing through the thirds, while Arteta has built a side that just delivered him a Premier League title and was hard to score against throughout this European campaign.

PSG had a comfortable domestic campaign and knocked out Bayern Munich in the semi-finals, though their last five league matches included a 2 2 draw with Lorient, a 1 0 win over Brest, a 2 0 win over Lens and a 1 2 defeat to Paris FC. Their Champions League performances have been more convincing, with the attack sharpening as the rounds progressed. Arsenal closed out the Premier League season strongly, winning their last four against Crystal Palace, Burnley, West Ham and Fulham and were difficult to break down in European knockout ties, having conceded very little across the two legged rounds.

Neither squad has major suspensions, though fitness is a concern on both sides. PSG are sweating over Achraf Hakimi (thigh), Ousmane Dembélé (calf), Lucas Chevalier (thigh) and possibly Nuno Mendes, whereas Arsenal are without Ben White (knee) and dealing with doubts over Jurrien Timber (groin) and Noni Madueke (hamstring), with Mikel Merino potentially available after injury. If everyone passes their fitness tests, PSG should line up in a 4 3 3 with Safonov, Hakimi, Marquinhos, Willian Pacho, Nuno Mendes, João Neves, Fabián Ruiz, Vitinha, Désiré Doué, Dembélé and Kvaratskhelia, while Arsenal's likely shape is a 4 3 3 or 4 2 3 1 with Raya, Timber (or cover), Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori, Rice, Lewis-Skelly, Ødegaard, Saka, Havertz (or Gyökeres) and Trossard.

PSG under Enrique press high and attack in numbers, with Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé leading the attack from the flanks and Vitinha sitting at the base of the midfield dictating tempo. Arsenal's shape in defence is built around Saliba and Gabriel, arguably the best centre back partnership in European football right now, with Rice anchoring the midfield and Ødegaard linking play between the lines. The battles that will likely decide this are Hakimi against Saka on the right flank, Rice and Vitinha and Neves in the midfield engine room and whether the PSG front three can find space behind an Arsenal backline that has barely conceded all season. Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé represent a step up from what Arsenal's full backs have faced in this competition, so whether Arsenal can funnel them inside and onto their defensive midfield is the question that shapes everything else.

The head to head record, with ties dating back to the 2016 Champions League group stage, is close across roughly seven or eight competitive encounters, with no side having established consistent dominance. The semi final aggregate win last season is PSG's most significant edge in the record.

Arsenal's set piece delivery has been a reliable source of chances throughout this campaign and PSG's threat is almost entirely through open play, making them a different side if the game locks up. PSG have handled the pressure moments in this competition as well as anyone, which counts for something on a night like this.

PSG 2 1 Arsenal. Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé carry a level of threat Arsenal's full backs have not encountered at this stage of the competition and PSG's pressing intensity through wide areas should create the openings that matter. Arsenal will make this uncomfortable and their set piece threat is real but PSG's ability to find space in behind through their forwards is the difference.
