ELO head-to-head

How Coritiba and Botafogo compare on rating, form and history.

Coritiba and Botafogo meet on 12 October 2026 at Couto Pereira in a Round 30 fixture that matters more than the mid table positions suggest. Coritiba sit ninth or tenth on 38 points from 29 games whereas Botafogo are 13th on 35, close enough to the relegation conversation that a loss here would be uncomfortable. That three point gap is small but real and a home win for Coritiba keeps the pressure off Fernando Seabra while Tite, who arrived at Botafogo on 16 September, needs a result to stop his side drifting further into trouble.

The two managers have not met competitively before and both came into their posts through similarly chaotic circumstances. Seabra arrived during late 2025 or early 2026 after a round of changes involving PC de Oliveira and Mozart, Tite's appointment followed the sacking of Franclim Carvalho on 18 August, with Rodrigo Bellão serving as interim before Tite officially took over six weeks later. Neither man has had long to imprint his ideas on the squad.

Coritiba's last five reads: a 3-2 win over Remo, a 1-2 loss to Mirassol, a 3-3 draw with Athletico-PR, a 0-5 thrashing at Vasco and a 0-4 defeat to Fluminense last Thursday, one win and one draw from five. Botafogo are not in much better shape, with a 0-2 loss to Mirassol, a 3-2 win over Grêmio, a 1-1 draw with Bragantino and a 0-0 at Palmeiras before a 1-2 defeat to Vasco around 8 October. Both back lines have been leaking badly.

Seabra is missing Tiago Cóser (edema muscular) and Pedro Morisco, rested after an international call up. Tite has his own absences: Kaio Pantaleão and Jordan Barrera are both out injured, disrupting the defensive structure he has been trying to build over his six weeks in charge.

Coritiba operate in a 4-2-3-1 with Sebastián Gómez controlling the central area and Josué providing options on the left. Up front, Breno Lopes and Pedro Rocha have each scored eight goals this season. Without Cóser and Morisco, the centre backs will need to stay compact and the full backs won't push forward as freely, though at Couto Pereira that is a reasonable trade off given that Coritiba's home record has held up even as their away form collapsed.

Botafogo line up similarly under Tite in a 4-2-3-1 that holds its shape in two banks of four until the ball is won. Danilo Santos leads the attack with nine goals, with Mateus Martins in the creative role and Nathan Ferraresi anchoring the back line. With Pantaleão and Barrera unavailable, Tite is likely integrating unfamiliar pairings and Coritiba's front two will look to test them early. If Botafogo sit deep, Coritiba might struggle to break them down and leave themselves exposed on the counter, though with only six weeks of preparation behind him Tite has not had long enough to iron out those defensive combinations.

The last meeting, in April 2026, finished 2-2 and set piece defending has been unreliable for both sides since. Gómez can deliver from wide areas into the box to pick out Coritiba's forwards, while Botafogo have Cabral's aerial presence to threaten at the other end.

Coritiba 2-1 Botafogo. Botafogo's defensive absences and the short runway Tite has had to reorganise his back line point toward a narrow home win. Botafogo cannot afford to lose ground with that three point gap still closeable but that pressure cuts both ways and at home Coritiba have more margin to absorb it. Danilo Santos's goal threat means Coritiba cannot leave gaps at the back, which limits how aggressively they press, yet the combination of Botafogo's makeshift defence and Lopes and Rocha's output this season makes Coritiba the likelier side to find the net first.
