How Vasco da Gama and Remo compare on rating, form and history.

Vasco host Remo at the Maracanã on 10 October 2026 in a relegation clash that matters far more to one side than the other. Ten points separate them and Vasco have games in hand, which makes this feel less like a coin flip and more like a chance for the hosts to open the gap properly. Vasco arrive on the back of a 2-1 win at Botafogo on 8 October, their fourth in five matches, whereas Remo are in freefall having taken one point from their last five outings, the most recent of which was a 1-1 against Grêmio on 7 October.

Pedro Emanuel, in charge since 11 July 2026 after replacing Renato Gaúcho, has his Vasco side sitting 14th with 34 points from 28 games. Thiago Carpini took over from Léo Condé on 16 September 2026 and finds his team 19th with 24 points from 29 matches. Vasco are without Carlos Cuesta (hip flexor) and Brenner (foot), which costs them cover in defence and attack respectively, though neither absence changes the shape in any fundamental way. Remo's situation is far worse: Matheus Felipe (hamstring) and João Lucas (knee ligament) are both ruled out and Zé Welison and Gabriel Poveda are serving multi game suspensions, leaving Carpini to go into a must win match with his midfield and attack stripped bare.

Vasco typically set up in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 with Thiago Mendes shielding the back line and overlapping full backs feeding Facundo Colidio and Andrés Gómez. Remo are a counter attacking side organised around Jajá (roughly seven goals this season), Yago Pikachu's creativity from midfield and Gabriel Taliari as a forward option, though without Zé Welison and Poveda they have no one to press high or win second balls in the middle. Whoever Carpini fields there will struggle to win possession back or protect the space behind, which is a serious problem against a side as organised as Vasco and with no like for like replacement for Zé Welison, Mendes is unlikely to face anyone capable of matching him for physicality in the middle. The Pikachu–Jajá combination on the counter is probably the one move Remo can still run effectively but it is hard to see them creating more than one or two chances given how thin their attacking options are.

Two wins for Vasco, one for Remo and two draws in the last five meetings, with the most recent encounter ending 1-1 at Remo's ground on 11 April 2026. The gap in current form and squad availability is wider than it has been in some time though, which makes that record less meaningful than it looks.

Remo do carry a set piece threat but the suspensions reduce their aerial presence at both ends and Vasco should be organised enough to keep it manageable. Vasco can afford to be patient given their 10 point cushion and games in hand, whereas Remo cannot afford another defeat and will need to take risks that suit the home side.

Vasco da Gama 3-1 Remo. Vasco should control the midfield throughout and pick Remo apart where their squad is thinnest. A consolation from a set piece is plausible but a win would move Vasco five points clear of the drop zone with games in hand over several rivals.
