How Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United compare on rating, form and history.

Blackburn Rovers host West Ham United at Ewood Park on 7 November 2026 in Championship Gameweek 15 and the stakes look rather different depending on which dugout you are sitting in. Blackburn sit 14th with 18 points from 14 games and have lost their last two league matches, so another defeat would start to look like a real problem for Tony Mowbray. West Ham arrive eighth on 23 points, four off second, with Scott Parker in charge for just the second game after his debut ended in a 3-3 draw at Cardiff. A home win would pull Blackburn back into the top half picture, whereas a West Ham win would suggest Parker has begun to arrest the slide that cost Nuno Espírito Santo his job. Mowbray and Parker have no direct competitive history between them.

Blackburn's last three Championship results read L-L-W, though the shape of those results matters more than the sequence. The two losses came on the road, 1-2 at Stoke and a fairly alarming 0-4 at Swansea, while the win was a composed 2-0 at home to Wrexham. Both defeats came away from home, which matters less with Blackburn on their own patch but the margin of that Swansea loss in particular suggests the double pivot is exposed when teams press them high. For West Ham, there is only one data point under Parker: that 3-3 at Cardiff, where they trailed before fighting back late, spirited but also defensively loose in a way Parker will want to address quickly.

Mowbray, who took charge in June after replacing Michael O'Neill, sets up in a 4-2-3-1 and leans on controlled possession. He is short a few players here: Ryan Alebiosu is doubtful through injury, Adam Forshaw is definitely out with a hip problem and Augustus Kargbo is also a doubt with a hamstring issue, leaving Mowbray without natural cover at right back and a third wide option. Parker, who replaced Nuno just days ago on 4 November, faces a doubt over Tomáš Souček, who has contributed most of West Ham's aerial recoveries in central midfield, a significant loss for just his second game in charge. Parker may push his midfield higher to compensate, though that would leave gaps behind.

Blackburn's 4-2-3-1 runs through Sam Morsy sitting deep and Todd Cantwell operating ahead of him, Andri Gudjohnsen leading the line and looking to get in behind between the centre backs. It is a structure that has produced some solid home results this season, though the recent away collapses suggest the double pivot can be bypassed when teams press with purpose. West Ham will probably line up in a matching 4-2-3-1, with Jarrod Bowen on the right and Joel Piroe as the central striker. Mavropanos is worth watching at set pieces, where he has the aerial ability to get above Blackburn's defenders in the box. Without Souček, West Ham's midfield loses that physical presence, which might let Morsy and Cantwell move more freely without being tracked (which is where Blackburn build from) but that also frees the wide players to run at a defence already short on personnel.

The game within the game is Cantwell against West Ham's midfield: if he finds space between the lines, Blackburn can keep the ball in West Ham's half and work combinations through the middle, with Cantwell the key link between midfield and attack, if West Ham's wingers isolate Blackburn's full backs instead, the counter attack becomes the more likely route to goal. The only recent competitive meeting between these clubs ended 2-2 in a Carabao Cup tie in November 2022, with Blackburn going through on penalties, which is not much to go on for how these particular squads match up.

Mavropanos has already shown he can attack crosses effectively and with Blackburn struggling to defend their box in recent weeks, dead balls look like West Ham's most reliable route to goal. Parker's first game produced a comeback from behind, which showed West Ham can find a goal under pressure, even if it also showed how exposed they can be for long stretches. Blackburn need to snap a two game losing run and will be anxious to avoid a third straight Championship defeat, whereas West Ham come here with the belief that a first win under Parker is within reach.

West Ham to win 1-2. The absences weigh more heavily on Blackburn's side: losing Forshaw, with Alebiosu and Kargbo both doubtful, strips away defensive solidity and width that Bowen and Piroe can exploit on the break. Souček's absence is a real loss too but Parker looks willing to press higher and play more fluidly to compensate and his squad has the wide players to make that work. Cantwell's movement between the lines and Gudjohnsen's willingness to run in behind give Blackburn a credible way back into this game, particularly from set pieces and they may well score from one. But Bowen running beyond Blackburn's exposed full backs on the break, combined with Mavropanos at dead balls, should be enough to take three points, with a Bowen goal or a Mavropanos header doing the damage.
