How Swansea City and Norwich City compare on rating, form and history.

Swansea City host Norwich City at the Swansea.com Stadium on 10 October 2026, Gameweek 9 of the Championship. Seventeen points from eight matches puts Swansea at the top, having conceded only six goals all season, whereas Norwich are 17th on nine points after three wins and five defeats, having shipped 17 in the same period. This is Swansea's best start since 2005 and the gap is growing uncomfortable for Clement's side.

Vitor Matos took charge at Swansea in November 2025 following Alan Sheehan, while Philippe Clement arrived at Norwich on 18 November 2025 after Manning's departure and the two have not faced each other competitively before. Both head into this one short handed: Swansea are without Cameron Burgess (Achilles) and Ross Stewart (muscle), with Josh Key and Stephen Eustaquio also doubts, while Norwich are missing Mohamed Toure, Ali Ahmed, Lucien Mahovo and Mirko Topic.

Swansea have been consistent through the opening weeks, their only league defeat coming early in the campaign. Norwich have been erratic: the 3-4 loss to Bolton in September told the story, a game where they created plenty but gave up four, the kind of defensive looseness that has defined their start.

Ben Cabango anchors the back line and the shape in front of him is compact enough to be hard to break down while still allowing quick transitions when Swansea win the ball back. Adam Idah leads the scoring and will test Norwich's centre backs with runs in behind, if he can isolate himself against one marker, clear chances should follow. Moussa Yeo tends to drift wide and stretch defences and with Burgess and Stewart missing, Matos may ask his midfielders to sit narrower to protect the channels rather than push on.

Schwartau and Musaba are the delivery threat for Norwich, looking to get in behind Swansea's full backs, with Kenny McLean distributing from central midfield. The aggressive shape can leave gaps in behind though and Idah's movement is designed for exactly those spaces. If Schwartau and Musaba can get in behind Swansea's full backs, Norwich can find the crossing angles, though those are the same gaps Bolton exploited in September.

Norwich hold the historical edge with nine wins to Swansea's seven and four draws, though recent meetings have been close. The sides drew 1-1 on 25 April 2026 before Swansea won 2-1 on 25 October 2025, leaving no settled pattern of dominance between them.

Swansea have already scored from set pieces this season and Norwich will need to be better organised in their own box than they have been. If Swansea can use Idah's hold up play to bypass an early Norwich press, the game should open up in their favour and with Burgess out, Matos may lean on dead ball delivery more than usual to compensate for what he has lost at the back.

Swansea City 2-1 Norwich City. Their ability to absorb pressure and hit in transition, combined with Norwich's defensive record, points to a home win. Idah looks likely to open the scoring from a transition or set piece, while Norwich will probably respond through Schwartau or Musaba but their defensive vulnerabilities should cost them again, with a late Swansea goal from a counter or dead ball settling it.
