Detailed tactical preview and 1-2 score prediction for the League One clash between Bromley and Wycombe Wanderers on 3 October 2026.

ELO head-to-head

How Bromley and Wycombe Wanderers compare on rating, form and history.

Bromley host Wycombe in a League One fixture that already carries weight this early in the 2026-27 campaign. The hosts sit 19th after seven games with eight points and a goal difference of minus ten following back to back promotions. Wycombe are 12th after eight matches with ten points and since Tom Hounsell stepped in as interim head coach on 8 September 2026 following Michael Duff's exit, they have won two of their three games in charge, including a 3-2 win over Leyton Orient and a victory against Wigan that lifted them into mid table.

This will be the first time Andy Woodman and Tom Hounsell face each other in the dugout, with Woodman having managed Bromley since March 2021 when he replaced Neil Smith and Hounsell having inherited a side that had lost its shape under Duff.

Bromley's last five results tell most of the story: a 2-1 win over Huddersfield, a 2-2 draw with Blackpool, then three straight defeats against AFC Wimbledon (0-2), Leyton Orient (0-5) and Sheffield Wednesday (2-7). There is a pattern there of the attack briefly sparking before the defence caves entirely, whereas Wycombe have back to back wins over Leyton Orient and Wigan that have lifted them into mid table under Hounsell.

Bromley will be without Ashley Charles for the season after a cruciate ligament injury, losing the holding midfielder who gave them balance in front of the defence, while Wycombe are also without their first choice goalkeeper, with Matt Macey still sidelined since July 2026 with his own cruciate injury and their options between the posts noticeably thinner as a result.

Woodman's Bromley play direct and fast, built on long balls with Adeboyejo and Cheek both dangerous at dead balls. Victor Adeboyejo has been their best player this season with three goals in six league games and George Saville's arrival from Luton gives Bromley a midfielder who can slow the game down when they need to, though without Charles behind him there is likely to be more space for opponents in transition. Hounsell's side press from the front and look to turn turnovers into immediate attacks, with Cauley Woodrow and Jayden Wareham the outlets, both of whom have scored under his watch. Steve Cook's summer arrival has given the back line more composure, helping them play out from defence with actual confidence rather than desperation.

Bromley's long balls will need to be precise to escape Hounsell's press, because if they aren't, Wycombe will turn those loose moments into exactly the kind of counter-attacks that have been cutting this Bromley defence open. With Charles out, Saville may need to sit deeper, which reduces his influence higher up the pitch and likely hands Wycombe more of the ball in midfield.

The clubs have met only once before, in the Carabao Cup on 26 August 2025, when Bromley drew 1-1 before losing 5-4 on penalties, making this their first league encounter. Bromley's dead ball delivery, with Adeboyejo and Cheek both in the box, is the clearest route back into a game they might otherwise be chasing and the match having been postponed due to international call-ups gives both sides extra preparation time that probably suits the more organised Wycombe.

Wycombe win this 2-1. Bromley's defensive record over the last three games is genuinely alarming and a Wycombe attack that has scored in both games under Hounsell should find gaps against a back four missing the protection Charles used to provide. Adeboyejo will cause problems and Bromley will likely score but Woodrow and Wareham should have enough to take the points, with Cook's reading of the game behind a high line limiting the space Adeboyejo and Cheek are looking to exploit.
