How Fulham and Newcastle United compare on rating, form and history.

Fulham host Newcastle United at Craven Cottage on 7 November 2026 in a mid table Premier League meeting. Fulham sit 15th with nine points from nine games and have shown signs of stabilising under Arbeloa, while Newcastle, 13th on 11 points, arrive having won just one of their last four. Arbeloa and Jaissle have no prior meetings as managers, making this a first encounter between two tactical philosophies yet to be fully tested at this level. Arbeloa took charge on 8 July 2026 after replacing Marco Silva and Jaissle followed on 5 August replacing Eddie Howe.

Fulham's last five reads D-W-W-L-D: a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on 31 October, back to back 1-0 wins over Coventry and Hull before that, a 1-2 loss to Ipswich on 10 October and a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in late September and those back to back wins are quietly telling about where this team is under Arbeloa.

Newcastle's sequence is a messier L-W-L-L-W. They lost 0-1 to Everton on 2 November, beat Crystal Palace 2-0 on 25 October, lost 0-1 to Aston Villa, then suffered a 1-4 hammering at Coventry before beating Hull 2-1 in September. Three defeats in five, including that 1-4 at Coventry, leaves Jaissle's project visibly unresolved.

Fulham have a near full squad available, whereas Newcastle are considerably more stretched, with Joelinton out injured, Jacob Ramsey suspended after picking up a red card, Tino Livramento sidelined with a knee problem and Ewen Jaouen out with a hamstring issue, plus Mathias Fernandez-Pardo and Lewis Miley both doubts. That is a great deal to absorb across two lines of a squad and it shows in just about every area Jaissle will want to be strong.

Fulham operate in a 4-2-3-1, with Alex Iwobi picking the moments to drive forward from midfield and Gonzalo Garcia leading the line despite a goal drought since his arrival. Oscar Bobb has joined the attack after his recent signing and Antonee Robinson pushes forward on the left but does not gamble, he tracks back.

Newcastle work from a similar 4-2-3-1 but press higher and look to transition quickly, with Barnes and Elanga leading the attack, though Joelinton's absence means they lose the focal point their press is built around while Ramsey's suspension removes a creative option that Jaissle cannot easily replace from what is left, leaving Joe Willock to cover far more ground in midfield.

The battle between Iwobi and Willock will probably define the tempo and if Fulham win second balls and push quickly, Bobb and Garcia can find space in behind a reshuffled Newcastle back line. Elanga's pace will test Robinson regardless, especially if Newcastle push men forward despite being short on the bench but Arbeloa's side has become hard to break down at Craven Cottage and Newcastle may find that frustrating. Set pieces could matter here too given how short Newcastle are at full back and in central midfield and Fulham should target their reshuffled back line from dead balls.

Fulham won the most recent Premier League meeting 2-0 at Craven Cottage in May 2026 and have taken three wins from the previous four or five top-flight meetings between these sides, so the head to head record sits with the home side as well.

We are going with 1-1 and here is why it is not a cop out. Fulham's defensive shape should handle whatever Newcastle can throw at them with four key players missing and without Joelinton to hold the press and Ramsey to run beyond, Newcastle cannot sustain the high-energy spells Jaissle wants. Barnes and Elanga have the pace to punish Fulham if they push too high, though and that is probably what this becomes: Fulham control enough of the game to feel satisfied until Newcastle catch them on the counter. The kind of game where the manager who blinks first probably loses it.
