Ligue 1 Matchday 6 preview with tactical breakdown, key absences, form analysis and our 1-2 score prediction for Nice against Strasbourg on 11 October 2026.

ELO head-to-head

How Nice and Strasbourg compare on rating, form and history.

Nice host Strasbourg at the Allianz Riviera on 11 October 2026 in a Ligue 1 Matchday 6 fixture. Nice sit 15th with five points from five games and badly need to build on their first win of the campaign, whereas Strasbourg are ninth with seven points and two points off fifth. Both coaches are five months into the job with no settled system yet visible: Olivier Pantaloni took charge on 17 June after replacing Claude Puel and Hugo Oliveira arrived on 12 July after replacing Gary O'Neil.

Nice arrive with the form line D L D L W in their last five Ligue 1 matches. The most recent was a 2-1 home win over Lille, their first win in five, which gives them a reference point going into this game. Strasbourg's sequence reads L W W D L, with several high scoring games before they lost 2-1 away to Paris FC in their final fixture, exposing just how porous they can be on the road.

Pantaloni is without Laurent Abergel (knee), Antoine Mendy (long term cruciate injury) and faces uncertainty over Moïse Bombito with a lower leg problem, all of which thin out his midfield options and defensive depth considerably. Strasbourg have their own problems: Joaquín Panichelli has been out since spring and remains ruled out, while Martial Godo is a doubt after picking up a knock, leaving the remaining forwards to carry extra burden without their most reliable reference point in attack.

Pantaloni's Nice figure to sit deep and absorb pressure at home, with Axel Witsel anchoring midfield and Jonathan Clauss operating on the right. The absences of Abergel and Mendy mean Nice may need to lean even more heavily on Witsel's composure than they would like and a midfield that thin is likely to be tested for the full ninety minutes rather than just spells of it. Elye Wahi and Mohamed Amoura will look to exploit gaps behind Strasbourg's high line on the counter, with Amoura's movement off the last defender Nice's clearest route to goal.

Strasbourg run a 4-2-3-1, with Gessime Yassine and Samuel Amo-Ameyaw joining Sebastian Nanasi and Giovanni Reyna in attack. Without Panichelli through the middle, Oliveira will ask his wide players to find space behind Nice's defensive line, though Strasbourg's away record is the obvious problem: they have conceded freely on the road and may be forced into a more cautious approach once Nice settle into their shape. The duel between Clauss and Strasbourg's left sided attackers will likely decide whether Nice break quickly or get pinned back and Witsel's ability to thread passes through an energetic Strasbourg double pivot will be tested throughout.

Strasbourg have not won at the Allianz Riviera in their last four visits, with recent meetings tending towards draws and that context matters here. With Abergel and Mendy out, Nice's midfield is shorter at set pieces than usual, making Witsel's aerial presence and Clauss's delivery from wide more consequential than they would otherwise be, while Strasbourg need to stay alert when balls are not cleared first time. Both sides need points badly: Nice to climb away from the bottom half, Strasbourg to protect a mid table position that could quickly become uncomfortable.

The absences of Abergel, Mendy and the doubt over Bombito seriously limit Nice's midfield options and defensive rotation and against a depleted Nice midfield, Strasbourg's attacking quartet of Yassine, Amo-Ameyaw, Nanasi and Reyna should find the openings they need if Oliveira manages the defensive risks that come with his open style. Nice will likely reply through Wahi or Amoura on the counter. Strasbourg win, 2-1.
