Ligue 1 Matchday 6 brings together two clubs in genuinely poor form, neither of whom can afford another slip. Troyes sit 16th on 4 points and Marseille 17th on just 3, making this a real six pointer at the wrong end of the table and Bruno Genesio has been in charge for five rounds without convincing anybody that he has found an answer to Marseille's problems. Adrien Dumont and Genesio have never faced each other as managers, with Dumont having been at Troyes since 12 August 2024 and Genesio arriving on 1 July 2026 after replacing Habib Beye.
Troyes' recent form reads bleakly: one win and one draw from their last five matches, with a 2-6 thrashing at Strasbourg and back to back 0-2 defeats to Angers and Lille among the losses. Marseille are no better, winning just once from five with four defeats including a 1-2 home loss to PSG and a 0-1 reverse at Rennes.

Troyes are without Yvann Titi (leg), Ismael Boura (hip), Alexandre Phliponeau (knee) and Merwan Ifnaoui (calf), with Paolo Gozzi also a doubt through a groin problem, a significant set of absences for a defence already adjusting to Ligue 1 after last season's promotion. Monfray will have to organise a makeshift back line missing several of their usual starters.
Marseille travel without Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who picked up an injury on international duty, alongside Derek Cornelius (hip), Amine Harit (knee/LCL) and suspended Timothy Weah. Hojbjerg is the biggest loss of the four: he is the natural tempo controller in midfield and without him Troyes should find it considerably easier to compete for second balls and give Le Douaron the space to run in behind.
Troyes' back line has been vulnerable at speed all season and the 2-6 at Strasbourg is the clearest illustration, with their defensive structure repeatedly bypassed through direct balls in behind against a high line. Jeremy Le Douaron leads the attack with Renaud Ripart dropping in support and Le Douaron's runs in behind will be Troyes' most direct route to goal. Monfray faces a difficult afternoon organising a back line missing at least four of their regular options.
Marseille's concerns are not in attack. Amine Gouiri leads the line with four league goals already, comfortably ahead of any Troyes forward for the campaign, while Angel Gomes provides the creativity from midfield and Igor Paixao operates alongside Neal Maupay in the front unit. The problem is at the other end, where Marseille have conceded in each of their five league matches and have yet to keep a clean sheet. Losing Hojbjerg complicates that further, leaving Marseille more exposed to a Troyes press and less capable of controlling tempo, though Gouiri and Paixao against a Troyes centre back pairing missing several regulars is a mismatch that ought to show up on the scoresheet.
Marseille have historically dominated this fixture, winning the most recent meeting 3-1 in April 2023, though that history counts for little when both sides are this short of form and personnel.

Set pieces could prove decisive with both squads depleted. Troyes will try to be difficult at dead balls and organised inside their own box, while Marseille have the technical options in Gomes and Paixao to unpick a packed shape if the game becomes disjointed. The attacking quality Marseille carry is meaningfully superior to what Troyes can offer going forward: Gouiri's four goals already put him clear of any Troyes player for the season, which is the clearest measure of where the gap lies.
The prediction is 1-2 to Marseille. Gouiri and Paixao should find openings against Troyes' depleted defence even without Hojbjerg and Weah and Le Douaron will look to exploit space in behind, so Troyes will likely nick one on the break. A third consecutive defeat would significantly increase scrutiny on Genesio's position, a win here at least buys him breathing room and time to stabilise things at the back.
