Atalanta vs Parma prediction: Sarri's injury hit side to edge past bottom three Parma

Serie A Matchday 10 takes Atalanta and Parma to Bergamo on 2 November 2026. Atalanta sit 12th after nine matches with 11 points from a 3-2-4 record and a goal difference of minus one, in the middle of a winless run long enough to pile real pressure on Sarri. Parma are 18th with just five points from a 1-2-6 record and a goal difference of minus ten, deep in the relegation places.

Atalanta's last five reads D-D-L-W-L, with a 2-2 draw against Fiorentina on 29 October and a 4-4 thriller against Frosinone on 25 October showing an attack capable of scoring but a defence that keeps giving it back. Parma's sequence is D-L-L-L-W, their most recent outing a 0-0 at Udinese on 28 October, a clean sheet against a side that had been scoring freely in the weeks prior.

Atalanta are badly hit at the back and up front. Isak Hien, Odilon Kossounou and Sead Kolasinac are all out injured, leaving Sarri without his first choice back three and no managerial head to head record to draw on against Gilardino either, while Raoul Bellanova is sidelined with a thigh or groin issue and Gianluca Scamacca remains out with a thigh problem. That is five absences across the two areas Atalanta can least afford: central defence and wide attack. Parma are missing Lautaro Valenti through injury and Nesta Elphege through illness, weakening a squad already thin in defence and midfield.

Sarri's 4-2-3-1 relies on controlled build up and central overloads but losing Hien, Kossounou and Kolasinac leaves him without his first choice back three and no natural replacement who replicates what any of them offered positionally. Bellanova's absence removes the most reliable wide outlet too and with Scamacca also gone there is no natural target man in the box, so that responsibility falls to Nikola Krstovic, the team's top scorer and the available focal point up front. Behind him, Charles De Ketelaere is the main creator and his capacity to break Parma down in the centre will be the real test. Gilardino will probably set Parma up in a 3-5-2 sitting in two banks to deny De Ketelaere room centrally and force Atalanta wide, which is a problem given Bellanova is not there to exploit it. The absences of Valenti and Elphege make holding that shape for ninety minutes harder and Parma have created very little from open play this season anyway, so their best chance of scoring is likely to come from a dead ball.

Atalanta's stretched defensive depth leaves them vulnerable to a well worked corner or free kick, which is Parma's most credible route to goal given how little they threaten in open play. Going the other way, Atalanta's attacking set pieces against a depleted Parma back line are worth watching, particularly given who Sarri can call on to attack them. The larger tactical question for Atalanta is how they shift the point of attack when Parma's central block holds firm, because without Bellanova there is no obvious wide option to do it.

Atalanta 2-0 Parma. Krstovic leads the line and De Ketelaere creates, with a combination between those two the most plausible source of the opener. The visitors' cautious setup and low scoring away record make a clean sheet realistic and a second should follow once Parma are forced to push men forward.
