Frosinone vs Lecce Prediction: Can Alvini’s High-Press Overwhelm Di Francesco’s Shorthanded Lecce?

Tactical breakdown, team news and our 2-1 score prediction for Frosinone vs Lecce in Serie A on 29 October 2026.

ELO head-to-head

How Frosinone and Lecce compare on rating, form and history.

Frosinone host Lecce at the Stadio Benito Stirpe on 29 October 2026 in a Serie A Matchday 9 fixture that pits a Frosinone side who have outscored every team above them in the division this season against a Lecce who have not managed back to back wins all campaign. Frosinone sit sixth with 14 points from eight matches and are pushing seriously for European football, while Lecce occupy 12th with nine points. Frosinone have scored more goals before the 30 minute mark than any other side in the division and that early pressing, fast transition style runs directly into Lecce's chronic problem of slow starts and defensive lapses.

There is no competitive head to head between Massimiliano Alvini and Eusebio Di Francesco to work with, since Alvini took charge at Frosinone on 2 July 2025 and Di Francesco replaced Marco Giampaolo at Lecce on 26 June 2025, meaning neither has faced the other in a competitive fixture during their current tenures.

Frosinone arrive having taken two wins and two draws from their last five, a D-W-L-W-D sequence that included a 4-4 draw away to Atalanta on 25 October where they scored four away goals while still conceding four and a 4-2 home win over Sassuolo on 16 October sandwiched around a 0-3 defeat at Napoli on 10 October. Lecce's last three league results read L-W-L: a 0-2 loss at Juventus on 25 October, a 3-0 win at Udinese on 18 October and a 1-2 home defeat to Bologna on 11 October, with all three decided by two or more goals and no draws anywhere in the sequence.

Frosinone will be without midfielder Florian Grillitsch, who is sidelined with a groin injury and not expected back before early November, though Lecce's absentee list is far more damaging: centre back Kialonda Gaspar is suspended after his red card against Juventus, midfielder Lassana Coulibaly is out with a hamstring injury until around 9 November and long term absentees Ivan Ilic (tendon rupture, out until at least March 2027) and Santiago Pierotti (broken ankle, out until at least January 2027) remain nowhere near a return, with defender Tiago Gabriel also a doubt with a bruised knee. Together these absences gut Lecce's defensive organisation and stretch their midfield cover at exactly the wrong time.

Frosinone operate a high pressing 4-2-3-1 that frequently shifts into 4-3-3 shapes when chasing possession and with an average of 42-43% possession the structure is built to win the ball in the final third and get it to Raimondo before defences can reorganise. Antonio Raimondo has been the main beneficiary, contributing multiple goals including recent hat tricks, while Romano Schmid occupies the attacking midfield role in that shape and Giacomo Calo screens from deep as Frosinone's primary link from defence to attack. Grillitsch's absence removes a composed passing option from that area but the overall structure remains intact and pointed at getting the ball high up the pitch early.

Lecce's 4-3-3 has conceded only three goals in their last three matches when fully staffed but shipped five in the two games they lost, which tells you the shape is fragile without the right personnel. Without Gaspar, Coulibaly, Ilic and Pierotti, their first choice centre back partnership and their first choice holding midfielder are all unavailable simultaneously, leaving a makeshift back four and a thin midfield screen against a side that presses from the front with intent. Lecce's tendency to concede early will get tested from the first whistle.

The central duel between Raimondo and whatever centre back Lecce put together should be telling. Lecce without Coulibaly and Ilic are short of midfield cover, which means the second line between their defensive block and their attack is likely to open up, exactly where Schmid operates from his position in the 4-2-3-1. N'Dri remains Lecce's best route back into the game on the counter but Frosinone's full backs pushing high is the exact condition he needs to run in behind, making this a genuine two way problem for Alvini's side and Frosinone's set piece routines have caused problems throughout the campaign on top of that, with Lecce's reduced defensive depth making them more vulnerable from dead balls, particularly if Tiago Gabriel cannot start. Calo's screening should at least limit how much Youssef Maleh can influence transitions.

Lecce are unbeaten in their last six competitive meetings with Frosinone, three wins and three draws, winning 2-1 in Serie A in December 2023 and drawing 1-1 in March 2024. Frosinone have not beaten Lecce since around 2020, though those results were produced with squads that bear little resemblance to either side today.

Frosinone 2-1 Lecce. Frosinone's habit of scoring before the 30 minute mark, combined with Lecce's chronic slow starts, should produce the first goal before half-time, most likely through Raimondo finding space behind Lecce's makeshift defence. N'Dri's pace in behind Frosinone's advancing full backs gives Lecce a genuine route back into the game but without Ilic and Coulibaly in midfield there is no one who can consistently win the ball back once Frosinone establish a lead and keep possession. Calo's control in midfield should offset the loss of Grillitsch's passing from deep and unless N'Dri can exploit that space consistently enough to change the game, the home side should have enough to hold on while Lecce face a difficult few weeks until those absentees return.
