ADO Den Haag host PSV Eindhoven at the Cars Jeans Stadion on 17 October 2026 and on paper this is about as straightforward a mismatch as the Eredivisie produces: one side is fighting to stay in the division, the other is chasing the title. ADO are back after promotion and sit 17th with three points from eight games, still without a win, while PSV are second with 19 points and have lost just once. A first win since coming up would matter enormously for ADO but PSV arrive having squeezed in a midweek Champions League fixture, meaning Bosz will rotate and still have more than enough to win this.
ADO come into this in patchy form, with their last five Eredivisie outings reading D D L L D. The most recent was a 2-2 draw away to SC Telstar on 11 October 2026, a point that came after three straight defeats and showed both their defensive fragility and that they can nick results when the opportunity arises. PSV arrive with real momentum: W L W W W, including a comfortable 2-0 win at SC Heerenveen on 9 October 2026, with the one loss in that run coming against stronger opposition.

Robin Peter has been in charge at ADO since 14 July 2025 and Peter Bosz at PSV since 1 July 2023. Three years into the job, Bosz is working from a deeply embedded structure, while Robin Peter is still in his first full season building one and there is no verified head to head record between them to draw on. The squad situations could not be more different. ADO are without C. Peupion (knee surgery), Jesse Bal (knee) and Luka Reischl (groin) and they also lose Sem Eekhout and Milan Hokke to red card suspensions running until at least 25 October. That is a lot of depth to lose from an already stretched squad and it weakens their defensive shape badly. PSV are also missing players, with Jerdy Schouten out until around May 2027 with an ACL tear, Ricardo Pepi injured and Paul Wanner carrying a foot problem, though none of that will concern Bosz much given how much deeper his squad runs.
ADO's approach is simply pragmatic: they sit deep, try to stay compact and hope to snatch something on the counter or from a set piece. They have conceded 19 goals in eight league games and losing five players to injury and suspension only makes the defensive picture worse. Peter will probably ask Evan Rottier and Yannick Eduardo to do the damage when PSV's defensive line pushes high, with Rottier's three assists and Eduardo's three goals suggesting that is where the danger comes from. Captain Daryl van Mieghem brings creativity when fit but maintaining any sustained possession is going to be well beyond this group.
PSV, under Bosz, are built around a possession structure that frees Sergiño Dest to operate as an extra forward from right back. Guus Til (five goals) and Sven Mijnans (four goals, one assist) are already the two highest output players in PSV's attacking line this season and even with rotation factored in, ADO's best realistic hope is isolating Eduardo against a rotated centre back pairing and making something of set pieces, with PSV's midfield likely to limit how often that situation even arises.
ADO will try to keep PSV in front of them in the opening stages by staying in a low block, though their 19 goals conceded suggests the low block has not held for long. PSV's movement between Til, Mijnans and a rotated front line will create the kind of third man runs that ADO's midfield, already thin on numbers, will struggle to track. If ADO concede early, which is very much a possibility given their personnel shortage, it gets much harder from there.
PSV have been historically dominant against ADO, with recent meetings averaging around 3.8 goals per game, most recently a 3-1 PSV win in the KNVB Cup in March 2023.

Set pieces are one of the few realistic routes to a positive result for ADO, with Van Mieghem's deliveries into the box aimed at Eduardo and Rottier likely to be a priority. PSV have won four of their last five league games while ADO have gone eight without one. The European demands on PSV are the one variable worth noting but their squad depth absorbs that far better than a squad already missing five players to injury and suspension.
ADO have conceded 19 goals in eight games with a full squad, they face PSV now without five of those players. PSV, who have conceded just three times in eight league games, should find space through Til and Mijnans, with Dest's forward runs arriving into a right side of ADO's defence already short on cover given the suspensions. Eduardo might get a fleeting moment on the counter but converting against a defence this organised is a different matter. If PSV score first, ADO's structural problems make a comeback beyond them. PSV to win 3-0.
