ADO Den Haag vs SC Cambuur Prediction: Relegation Battle at WerkTalent Stadion

In-depth tactical preview and 2-1 score prediction for ADO Den Haag vs SC Cambuur in Eredivisie Week 7 on 19 September 2026.

ELO head-to-head

How ADO Den Haag and Cambuur compare on rating, form and history.

Both sides came up together at the start of the 2026/27 Eredivisie season and both have since found out exactly how steep the drop from the Keuken Kampioen Divisie can be. ADO Den Haag are bottom, 18th, with a single point from six matches, while SC Cambuur sit only fractionally better off in 15th with four points. When they meet at WerkTalent Stadion on 19 September 2026, two clubs with the same problem (too many goals against, not nearly enough at the other end) will be desperate for the same result.

Robin Peter took charge of ADO Den Haag on 14 July 2025, replacing Darije Kalezic, while Johan Plat came in at SC Cambuur on 8 April 2026 to succeed Henk de Jong and the two have not met in a competitive fixture before.

ADO have lost four of their last five and their only point came from a 2-2 draw with Feyenoord on 30 August, a reasonable result on paper, though defeats to FC Groningen, Go Ahead Eagles, Fortuna Sittard and FC Twente since then have made the defensive situation genuinely alarming, with 16 goals conceded in six games. Cambuur have been only marginally better, having shipped 18 in those same six games despite a 3-0 win at NEC Nijmegen on 12 September that offered some relief after heavy losses to Excelsior, Fortuna Sittard, Feyenoord and FC Twente.

ADO are without Cameron Peupion, sidelined since early August with a knee injury and unlikely to return before late September, with Mylian Jimenez also a doubt. Cambuur are missing Daan Visser (long term, cruciate ligament surgery in 2025) and Mark Diemers, who left in the summer, while Wout Asselman is doubtful through injury. The two squads are short of players where they need them most.

Robin Peter has tried to build something at ADO worth watching, built around young players who press high, though 16 goals conceded in six games is the price of playing with a high line and an open structure. Daryl van Mieghem leads the press as captain and forward, Yannick Eduardo leads their scoring with two goals already and Juho Kilo provides midfield cover when the shape needs it. Cambuur under Johan Plat pursue something similar, with the same structural gaps at the back as a result. Their 18 goals conceded in six matches is even worse than ADO's tally. Rafik el Arguioui has four in six games, Ilyes Hamache has three and Thijs Jansen in goal has had little protection in front of him.

Peupion's absence places more responsibility on Eduardo and van Mieghem to create and score. Visser's continued absence leaves Cambuur's defence even more exposed than it already was and if Asselman misses out too, their midfield options narrow further. El Arguioui will look to exploit the space behind ADO's high line, which has been generous to opposing forwards all season.

Neither defence has been reliable from set pieces, with goals conceded from corners and free kicks already contributing to both tallies. ADO's youth heavy bench could change things late on and Cambuur's tendency to push numbers forward even when behind means they will press for set pieces throughout. Both sides are in the bottom four with October approaching, so there is no comfortable interpretation of another defeat for either manager.

ADO Den Haag 2-1 SC Cambuur. Eduardo and van Mieghem should create enough between them to find the net twice and ADO at WerkTalent in a match they need to win is the factor that tips this. El Arguioui has four in six and Cambuur will push numbers forward but their 18 conceded tell you everything about the space they leave. A narrow home win, with both defences making the same errors they have made all season.
