FC Utrecht vs Willem II Prediction: Can Hosts Capitalise on Home Advantage?

In-depth tactical preview and 3-0 score prediction for FC Utrecht vs Willem II in the Eredivisie on 11 October 2026.

ELO head-to-head

How Utrecht and Willem II compare on rating, form and history.

FC Utrecht welcome Willem II to Stadion Galgenwaard on 11 October 2026 for Eredivisie Matchweek 8 and this is a relegation fight neither side can afford to lose. Utrecht sit 15th on five points from seven games, Willem II are bottom with just two draws and no wins at all. Utrecht have home advantage, more points and a functional midfield once van Overeem returns, while Willem II have none of those things right now.

Utrecht have been wildly inconsistent, taking heavy beatings from Feyenoord (0-5 on 20 September) and PSV (1-6 on 30 August) while managing a 2-1 win over Excelsior and two draws, which at least shows they can score, though Feyenoord and PSV both found space in behind the midfield line fairly easily and the defence has been deeply worrying. Willem II haven't won a game yet, their recent run including a 1-5 loss at Ajax on 15 September and a 0-1 defeat to Fortuna Sittard on 19 September, with only a 1-1 draw against AZ to show for it.

Victor Jensen is done for the calendar year with a knee injury, Noah Ohio and Alonzo Engwanda are also out and Artem Stepanov, Utrecht's leading scorer, missed training and is a doubt, though the real boost for Correia is captain Joris van Overeem returning from injury to anchor midfield. Willem II are equally stretched at the back: Thomas Didillon-Hodl is sidelined with a hamstring injury and Justin Hoogma is out with a knee problem, leaving Stegeman without two of his first choice centre backs and no replacement pairing announced yet.

Correia has been using a 4-3-3 that favours quick ball movement through the middle and van Overeem returning as midfield pivot gives that system its natural anchor. His delivery from dead balls will be a serious problem for a centre back pairing with no natural partnership behind it and a makeshift back line is exactly the kind of defence that concedes from set pieces. Adrian Blake running at full backs is Utrecht's other consistent attacking source, though if Stepanov can't play, Blake and others will need to become the primary goalscoring outlets rather than secondary ones. Stegeman's side usually line up in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, with Devin Haen, who leads their attacking line, looking to punish any high defensive line Utrecht push, while Tonny Vilhena sits in front of the back four to screen the defence. That back line was already short on quality without Didillon-Hodl and Hoogma and it is shorter still now.

Utrecht have taken points in their last two home league games, Willem II are still waiting for their first win anywhere. Utrecht 3-0 Willem II. Van Overeem anchoring midfield and Blake running at a depleted back line should be enough to win this and with Willem II having scored just three goals in seven games and missing two centre backs, Utrecht keeping a clean sheet is realistic given how badly that defence has been exposed this season.
