PSV Eindhoven host SC Heerenveen at the Philips Stadion on 9 October 2026 in round eight of the Eredivisie. Third on 16 points from seven matches, they sit two points behind leaders AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord and the 3-2 defeat to Twente last time out cost them the chance to go level with both sides above them. Heerenveen arrive in tenth place with nine points, facing an attack that has scored 19 goals in seven league games.
Peter Bosz has been at PSV since July 2023, while Robin Veldman has taken charge of Heerenveen since March 2025. The two have not met often enough for the head to head numbers to mean much, though Bosz's domestic record speaks for itself: his teams impose high tempo, possession first football on opponents and very rarely ease off.

PSV won four of their last five league outings, dismantling Groningen 5-1, Utrecht 6-1 and Ajax 3-1 before a 4-1 win over Sparta Rotterdam, then fell 3-2 away to Twente in a result that exposed how vulnerable they can be when someone bypasses the press. Heerenveen's recent run is harder to read: a 4-0 hammering of Sparta Rotterdam is genuinely impressive but it sits between draws and losses.
PSV are carrying a long list of absences. Jerdy Schouten is out with an ACL injury, while Lutsharel Geertruida, Kiliann Sildillia and Adamo Nagalo are all sidelined. Paul Wanner has a foot injury, Ricardo Pepi and Alassane Pléa both face extended absences (Pléa's knee issue is long term), Sam Lammers is out with a hamstring problem and Sami Ouaissa is missing with a muscle injury. Most of those absent are in support roles rather than the expected first choice XI, though Schouten and Geertruida are real losses to the build up. Heerenveen are also without Dirk Proper (hamstring), Mats Egbring (ankle), Mees Hilgers (long term knee) and Oliver Braude.
PSV's system is built on pressing and constant movement to pull apart compact defences. With Schouten out, Guus Til steps into the midfield anchor role, Ivan Perisic supplies delivery from the flanks and Ruben van Bommel operates ahead of him in the half space. The most telling match up is probably Dest against Heerenveen's right side: his overlapping runs arrive directly into the channel that Proper would normally cover and with Hilgers also absent, that flank looks genuinely exposed. Heerenveen will look to play through Jacob Trenskow and Dylan Vente in transition, with Sam Kersten anchoring the back line, though losing both Proper and Hilgers weakens them in two of the areas PSV are most likely to target.
PSV have won four or more of their recent meetings with Heerenveen, including a 3-1 victory in February 2026.

Perisic's delivery makes PSV a threat from dead ball situations too and Heerenveen's depleted back line will face that problem with two first choice defenders absent.
PSV win 3-0. The squad gap between these sides is wide and Heerenveen's injury list only widens it further. The only real uncertainty is whether Bosz's patched up midfield can sustain the tempo for a full ninety minutes but there is enough quality in the forward line regardless.
