How Academico Viseu and Estoril compare on rating, form and history.

Académico de Viseu host Estoril Praia in Primeira Liga Matchweek 8 on 10 October 2026, with both sides arriving in very different conditions. Viseu sit seventh with 11 points from seven games and have won their last three in a row, whereas Estoril are bottom with just two points, no wins, three goals scored all season and a goal difference of minus seven. Viseu see this as a chance to push further into the top half following promotion, while Estoril are frankly desperate for anything resembling three points. The international break gave Viseu time to bed in new signings, though it's hard to know how much a fortnight off helps a side that low on confidence. Bruno Pinheiro and Vasco Matos have no prior managerial meetings, with Pinheiro taking charge of Viseu on 1 July 2026 and Matos appointed at Estoril a week later on 8 July, replacing Ian Cathro.

Viseu have collected three wins and two draws from their last seven league outings, with the final three all victories including a 2-1 win over Vitória Guimarães on 12 September and a 2-0 defeat of Estrela Amadora on 20 September. Estoril's seven game record reads two draws and five defeats, their most recent a 1-2 loss at Casa Pia.

Viseu have a clean bill of health and can pick from a settled squad, whereas Estoril are without Fabricio Garcia for at least six months after right knee surgery and Yanis Begraoui is a doubt with a muscular injury. Two absences from an attacking pool that has managed only three league goals all season is a serious problem, placing even more on Jordan Holsgrove and João Carvalho to manufacture chances from midfield while Ferro and the back four have less threat ahead of them to relieve any pressure Viseu build.

Pinheiro has put together an organised, direct side, with André Clóvis leading the attack, winning headers from crosses and set pieces and giving defenders a physical problem they haven't always solved this season. Luís Silva runs the midfield with experience and positional discipline and Cihan Kahraman creates from deep in the pockets defenders struggle to track, while Ewerton is reliable in goal behind them. Facing an Estoril side that has barely scored and is badly short on confidence, Viseu should be able to work the ball into the areas Kahraman and Silva already exploit, with Clóvis drawing defenders out of position as the focal point.

Estoril's plan under Matos is built around Holsgrove and Carvalho carrying the ball quickly into space but without a striker to aim at when the transition starts it becomes very difficult to punish a high defensive line. Losing Begraoui and Garcia means Ferro's back four will be left exposed the moment Viseu step up their press. The individual battles that matter most are Clóvis against Ferro in the air and Kahraman's knack for finding space in behind Estoril's midfield block. If Viseu get an early goal, Estoril's need for points could push them into taking risks they can't really afford, opening more space for the hosts on the counter. Viseu's win over Vitória Guimarães already shows they can do it against harder opposition than Estoril, who are far more likely to invite pressure than to generate it.

With Clóvis and Silva both winning headers regularly from corners and free kicks, set pieces are where Viseu have caused the most damage this season and no weather or pitch issues are expected to alter that picture.

Académico de Viseu 2-1 Estoril. Viseu's three game winning streak and home advantage should be enough to see them through, with Clóvis the likeliest name on the scoresheet first, either from a set piece or a cut back and Kahraman or Silva adding a second through midfield. Estoril's best hope is a Holsgrove or Carvalho counter late on and they may well grab one if Viseu get comfortable and switch off but a side that has scored three times all season and is now missing two of its main attacking options isn't going to do it here.
