How Casa Pia and Sporting Lisbon compare on rating, form and history.

Primeira Liga Matchday 10 brings bottom half Casa Pia up against third placed Sporting CP on 30 October 2026. Sporting come in needing a response after their midweek league defeat, while Casa Pia are riding their first league win in several weeks. The points gap is stark (Sporting have 18 from nine games, Casa Pia just seven) but the home side's improving form and their ability to threaten from corners and free kicks around the box mean this is no formality.

Neither Filipe Coelho nor Rui Borges has faced the other in a competitive fixture, meaning neither coach has any scouting file on the other from the dugout. Coelho took the Casa Pia job on 5 July 2026 after replacing Álvaro Pacheco, while Borges has been at Sporting since late December 2024 when he replaced João Pereira. Casa Pia come in with a W-D-L-L-W sequence that has pulled them off the bottom, their most recent result being a 2-0 win over Estrela Amadora on 24 October 2026 backed by a clean sheet from Patrick Sequeira. Sporting, by contrast, lost 1-2 to Académico de Viseu on 25 October 2026, conceding twice on the break against a side that finished well below them in the table.

Casa Pia are without André Gomes, sidelined with an adductor injury, which removes their main ball carrier from midfield and pushes Lawrence Ofori into a bigger role. Sporting have their own problems: Zeno Debast is suspended at centre back and Nuno Santos is a fitness doubt on the left flank, gaps that may force Borges to tweak his preferred 4-2-3-1.

Casa Pia sit in a low block and rely on Henrique Araújo to run in behind on the transition, though without Gomes available Ofori has to do more defensive work to protect the back line and Araújo ends up relatively isolated. Sporting shift between a 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3, with Luis Suárez leading the attack on around eight league goals already this season and Catamo as the outlet on the right, cutting inside from wide positions and looking to combine in the final third. Debast's absence is a real loss given that he carries the ball past the first press and sets Sporting's tempo from deep and without him Borges may be pushed into a more direct approach than he would prefer. What it really comes down to is whether Sporting's midfield can get on top of Ofori early and shut off Casa Pia's ability to release Araújo in behind before it becomes a problem.

Sporting have been dominant in this fixture, remaining unbeaten in recent meetings with a 3-0 win in January 2026 following a 2-0 win in August 2025. Casa Pia's clearest route to goal is from dead balls and Sequeira, who kept a clean sheet last weekend, gives them a reliable base from which to work. Sporting are comfortable in away games and generate plenty from set pieces themselves, so if the home side are going to cause a problem it will almost certainly come from a dead ball situation in the final third.

The prediction here is 0-3 to Sporting CP. Gomes' absence makes it harder for Casa Pia to hold on in midfield and with Suárez's output in front of goal and Catamo's ability to find space on the right, Sporting have enough to break down a home side that still hasn't won at home this season.
