ELO head-to-head

How Levante and Sevilla compare on rating, form and history.

Levante host Sevilla at the Ciutat de Valencia on 12 October 2026, with a La Liga relegation battle on one side of the fixture and a European qualification push on the other. Levante sit 17th with around five points from their opening seven fixtures, having managed just one win in six outings, whereas Sevilla occupy fifth with roughly 13 points from seven games. The visitors are also unbeaten away from home this season, which makes Levante's home advantage considerably less comfortable than the league table alone would suggest.

Luis García Plaza, appointed Sevilla manager on 24 March 2026 after replacing Matías Almeyda, has a poor recent record against Levante, losing four of his last six meetings with the club. Luís Castro was installed at Levante in December 2025 after a messy interim period involving Álvaro del Moral and Vicente Iborra and his attacking, width heavy philosophy has yet to produce consistent results, though it forces opposition full backs to defend one on one for long stretches, which is exactly the kind of problem García Plaza will need to account for.

Levante's recent results tell a defensive horror story: a 2-4 defeat to Barcelona and a 1-3 loss to Villarreal. Sevilla, by contrast, have collected points in five of their seven fixtures, including a 1-3 defeat to Barcelona and they have yet to lose on the road this season.

Levante will be without Hugo Sotelo (knee) and Karl Etta Eyong (muscle), losing two players who provided rotation and midfield cover in a squad without the depth to replace them easily. Sevilla have their own concerns: Marcao is out and Lucas Stassin is a doubt with an adductor problem, which could push García Plaza towards a more controlled, possession based game that leans heavily on Youssouf Fofana's late arrivals in the box.

Levante's 4-2-3-1 under Castro is built around width, with Romero dropping between the lines, Fernández running in behind and Brugué cutting inside from the right. Without Sotelo and Eyong, though, the home side may find they can initiate attacks without being able to sustain them.

Sevilla's 4-2-3-1 is pragmatic and midfield heavy, designed to absorb and hit. Miguel Ángel Sierra and Lucien Agoume give García Plaza the defensive structure he needs away from home and Fofana's habit of arriving late in the box makes him dangerous even in contained games. Losing Marcao thins the back line and a Stassin absence would blunt their direct threat further, though the shape itself has enough rigidity to function without either.

Fofana and Thiago Fernández will probably dictate the tempo between them, with Fernández looking to find pockets behind Sevilla's midfield while Fofana's forward runs could punish Levante the moment they overcommit.

Sevilla have historically dominated this fixture but Levante won the last two league meetings 2-0 and 3-0 and 1-1 draws have come up often enough to form a pattern. García Plaza's personal record against Levante is poor and his side have struggled to impose themselves in these encounters despite their higher league standing.

Set piece delivery could matter here given the absences on both sides. Levante are likely to target Brugué and Romero from dead balls now that Sotelo is unavailable, while Sevilla will aim to stay compact from set pieces and use Fofana's late runs to punish Levante on the break. Levante have historically been strong at home on Mondays, though Sevilla's unbeaten away record is the more concrete piece of evidence.

The 1-1 feels right. Levante's desperation and home advantage will push them forward early and their recent wins over Sevilla give Castro's players confidence going into it. But the absences of Sotelo and Eyong will limit their ability to sustain attacks or protect a lead and Sevilla's structure is exactly the kind that absorbs pressure and punishes overextension. With Marcao out and Stassin doubtful, García Plaza is likely to park ambition and settle for control.
