Osasuna vs Rayo Vallecano Prediction: Camello’s Hot Streak Points to Away Win at El Sadar

Detailed La Liga preview analysing form, tactics and absences as Osasuna host Rayo Vallecano on 19 September 2026.

ELO head-to-head

How Osasuna and Rayo Vallecano compare on rating, form and history.

Matchday 7 in La Liga throws together two sides level on seven points, with Osasuna sitting 13th and Rayo 11th, both trying to make sense of inconsistent starts. The hosts need to stop the rot after three straight defeats while Rayo, for all Camello's brilliance up front, are yet to pick up a point on the road this season.

Neither Ramis nor San José has faced the other in a competitive fixture, so you're reading the tea leaves from their individual work rather than any direct encounters. Luis Miguel Ramis took charge of Osasuna on 10 June 2026 following Alessio Lisci's departure, while Beñat San José arrived at Rayo on 18 June after replacing Íñigo Pérez.

Osasuna's last five league results read W-W-L-L-L. The two wins came against Getafe and Celta Vigo at the end of August but since then the side has conceded heavily against Alaves, Espanyol and Atletico Madrid, shipping nine goals across those three defeats. Rayo's five match league run is L-W-L-D-L, with a Copa del Rey win over Racing Santander thrown in. A draw at Alaves and a home win over Espanyol are the only positives in that run, a heavy loss at Barcelona and a reverse against Real Madrid are less pretty.

Osasuna are short in several areas. Herrando and Oroz are both out through injury while Moi Gómez and Valentín Rosier are doubts, leaving Ramis potentially without a recognised right back and two of his regular midfield starters. Rayo are without goalkeeper Augusto Batalla, sidelined with a lower leg fracture, which compounds an already shaky defensive record on the road.

Both teams set up in a 4-2-3-1 but the similarity stops there. Osasuna under Ramis want to stay compact and use set piece deliveries as their primary attacking weapon, with Budimir (four goals and counting) the target for everything into the box. The problem is that the backline has looked porous under high pressure in recent weeks and without Herrando and Rosier still a doubt alongside him, the defence is thinner than Ramis would like. Jon Moncayola returning from a brief absence should help and Rubén García offers width if he starts.

Rayo press hard and transition quickly, with Unai López running things from deep and Álvaro García providing the width to drag the defensive shape out of position. Then there's Camello: six goals in six league appearances, a frankly absurd return for a side sitting 11th. Osasuna's depleted defence has already shipped nine goals in three games, Camello dropping into the space Herrando would normally cover is the obvious danger. If Moncayola screens that channel effectively Osasuna have a chance but with Rosier a doubt the right side of their backline is the obvious target.

Rayo have been shaky defending set piece deliveries and Batalla's absence will hurt their organisation at corners but their press could equally limit the number of dead ball situations Osasuna get to exploit, which cuts both ways in what should be a tight, scrappy affair.

Osasuna have been strong at El Sadar against Rayo, losing just once at home in their last six meetings. The most recent encounters went the hosts' way: a 3-1 away win for Osasuna in January 2026 and a 2-0 home win in September 2025. The head to head favours Osasuna, though a two goal advantage in historical meetings counts for less when your defence is missing two regulars.

Rayo Vallecano to win 2-1. Camello's form is the headline reason: you don't ignore a striker scoring at a goal a game rate against a defence that has shipped nine goals in three games. Budimir will probably get Osasuna on the scoresheet from a set piece and Budimir's aerial threat and Osasuna's dead ball delivery mean this won't be comfortable but the combination of multiple injuries and a four game losing run should be enough for Rayo to win. The fact they haven't won away from home yet this season gives you pause but Camello's goals per game and Osasuna's nine conceded in three is about as clear a case as a preview can make.
