Bradford City sit second in League One after nine matches, with 17 points and a +3 goal difference. Stevenage come to Valley Parade on 17 October ninth in the table after eight games, with 12 points and a +4 GD. Bradford are unbeaten at home and have the best defensive record in the division so far.
Michael Duff only took over at Bradford on 6 October, replacing Graham Alexander, so he is barely two weeks into the job. His one prior meeting with Alex Revell came in this season's Carabao Cup when Duff was still at Wycombe and Revell's Stevenage nicked it with a stoppage time corner. That is exactly how Stevenage operate: defend, stay compact and win it from a dead ball in the final minute. Revell reached his 200th game in charge around 10 October, his second stint at the club since replacing Steve Evans in May 2024. Bradford won't care.

Bradford arrive on D D W W W over their last five, their most recent a 0-0 at home against Leyton Orient on 10 October, Duff's first league game in the job and the clean sheet says plenty about the template he inherited and is already building on. Stevenage come in on W L W W D, most recently a 1-0 win at Wigan on 10 October. Bradford are managing it while winning, Stevenage's three wins in five come alongside a defeat and a draw that suggest they are not yet consistent over ninety minutes.
Bradford are without Zac Hadi, sidelined with a knee injury for around ten games, though no other absences are reported for the home side. Stevenage have a full squad available, which Revell will have been glad of heading into his 200th game.
Bradford work from a 3-5-2 or 3-4-2-1, with the back three allowing both wing backs to push high while maintaining defensive cover, compressing space centrally and forcing opponents wide. Sarcevic controls the midfield tempo, freeing Pointon (two league goals already) and Phillips to arrive late into space, with Beesley the focal point higher up. Hadi's absence is an inconvenience but Bradford have the best defensive record in the division and the system looks bigger than any one player.
Stevenage line up in a 4-4-1-1, sitting in two compact banks of four and looking to bypass the midfield entirely with direct balls to Magennis, using his hold up play to bring Kemp and the wide men into the game late. Oliver Sanderson has been their leading scorer, with Dan Kemp linking midfield to attack from the number ten role and Carl Piergianni anchoring the back four. Magennis and Piergianni both win their headers and set pieces are the clearest route to a Stevenage goal. Bradford's back three will need to account for both men at every dead ball, because one lapse in their organisation is likely the visitors' best chance.
The central battle is Sarcevic cutting off Stevenage's direct supply to Magennis while Pointon and Phillips find space behind the away midfield line, with Bradford's wing backs tasked with containing Sanderson's forward runs while also initiating attacks going the other way.

The two most recent League One meetings were both narrow. Stevenage won 1-0 on 11 April 2026 and the sides drew 1-1 on 25 October 2025. With Duff now in the Bradford dugout and Stevenage having improved their squad depth since those results, neither scoreline is a reliable guide, though both teams' default shapes suggest another low scoring, tight affair.
Bradford City 2-1 Stevenage. The control Sarcevic gives Bradford in midfield should limit Stevenage's direct approach and Stevenage commit numbers to their set piece deliveries, which leaves space in behind for Bradford's wing backs to exploit on the turn. The visitors will threaten from every dead ball and Magennis will give Bradford's back three a physical test they haven't faced yet this season but Duff's defensive structure is solid enough. Pointon's movement between the lines is the likeliest source of a Bradford goal. Duff's first home win as Bradford manager, earned the unglamorous way.
