How Monaco and Lille compare on rating, form and history.

AS Monaco welcome Lille to the Stade Louis II on 25 October 2026, with both clubs sitting level on 14 points after seven matches. Monaco are fifth, Lille fourth and the winner will pull clear of a chasing group that includes Lyon, PSG and Paris FC in the race for Champions League qualification.

Filipe Luís took charge of Monaco on 6 July 2026 after replacing Sébastien Pocognoli, while Davide Ancelotti stepped into the Lille role around the same time following Bruno Genesio's departure. Neither has faced the other as a manager before, so Sunday also functions as an opening read on how their respective ideas match up.

Monaco arrive with a run of L D W D W across their last five, their most recent outing being a 3-0 win over Freiburg in the Conference League on 22 October, though the sequence also includes a narrow defeat to Lorient. Lille have been patchier, with a 0-3 loss to Arsenal in the Champions League and an away defeat at Nice suggesting Ancelotti's side haven't found full consistency yet.

Monaco are without Eric Dier (muscle) and Stanis Idumbo (groin). Lille's list is considerably longer and more damaging: Ayase Ueda (foot), Hamza Igamane (cruciate knee surgery) and Tiago Santos (cruciate reconstruction) are all ruled out, with Osame Sahraoui also a doubt. Losing Ueda and Igamane hurts Ancelotti's attacking options badly and Santos's absence at full back leaves the defensive shape looking thin.

Paris Brunner, fresh from suspension and back among the goals, is Monaco's most credible match winner on current form, with Dier and Idumbo's absences complicating build up play without fundamentally altering the defensive shape. Lille's approach is more cautious: sit deep, block central lanes and use Olivier Giroud's hold up play to launch transitions, while Benjamin André screens in front of the defence with the specific task of stopping Golovin from operating in the half spaces. The injury depleted squad limits how much Ancelotti can adjust mid game and Sahraoui's doubtful status leaves him with few wide options off the bench.

The game probably hinges on whether Golovin can work around André's discipline. If Monaco's wide rotations pull Lille's midfield out of position, Brunner gets his chance to run in behind. If they can't, this becomes a first half of blocked lanes and recycled possession that neither side can crack.

Lille have won six of the last 12 meetings against Monaco's two, with four draws in between, a record that points toward a low scoring contest. Both squads are missing aerial cover and full back options, so set pieces carry more weight than usual, with Monaco looking to threaten from corners and free kicks while Lille must defend them without their usual personnel.

Monaco to win 1-0. Golovin as a route through André's screen and Brunner's recent scoring run give Monaco a clearer path to goal than Lille's injury thinned attack can offer in response and a depleted Lille forward line will struggle to hurt Monaco at the back even with Dier and Idumbo absent.
