How Rayo Vallecano and Elche compare on rating, form and history.

Rayo Vallecano welcome Elche to the Estadio de Vallecas on 24 October 2026 for La Liga Matchday 10, with the hosts sitting 14th on nine points from eight games and Elche a place deeper in trouble at 18th with seven from nine. Rayo start as slight favourites, their home record comfortably outstripping anything Elche have managed on the road, with Elche conceding in five of their seven away games this season despite Anselmi's defensive reorganisation.

Beñat San José took charge of Rayo on 1 July 2026, replacing Íñigo Pérez, while Anselmi arrived at Elche around the same time after Eder Sarabia's departure and the two coaches have no competitive history against each other.

Rayo's last five reads D-D-W-L-W, their most recent result a 1-1 at Getafe on 19 October, while Elche's sequence is D-D-W-L-D, with a 0-0 at Villarreal on 17 October and another clean sheet against Celta a week earlier rounding out their last two.

Rayo are without Pathe Ciss (suspended), Augusto Batalla and Luiz Felipe (both injured), hollowing out their options in midfield and at the back and likely showing in their ability to press high without leaving the back four exposed. Elche are missing Marc Aguado, four to six weeks away with an ankle ligament injury, whose absence removes the holding presence that usually screens passes through the centre.

Rayo are at their best at home, where the narrow Vallecas pitch compresses the game in a way that suits their transition heavy style. Sergio Camello drifts between the lines to link play and pull Elche's centre backs narrow, leaving Isi Palazón and Álvaro García arriving late from wider positions and without Ciss Rayo will probably lean more on collective pressing triggers to win the ball high before Elche can settle into their shape.

Anselmi has Elche defending in a compact mid block, with Thomas Lemar operating between the lines and Fer Niño waiting to run in behind on the counter. Niño leads their scoring charts with around five goals and Germán Valera operates wide alongside him. Losing Aguado complicates their defensive midfield structure and they may have to ask Lemar to drop deeper than is ideal or play a more aggressive double pivot to close off Rayo's central lines.

If Rayo can get the ball to Camello in behind Elche's defensive line, they will likely create enough to win. If Elche keep him quiet and force Rayo wide, a point looks achievable, though Camello dropping short to link play tends to pull defenders with him and open room for Palazón and García arriving in behind.

Rayo won the last home La Liga meeting 1-0 on 3 April 2026, whereas Elche took a 4-0 win in the reverse fixture on 21 December 2025 and the Vallecas record tells its own story: three consecutive La Liga wins for Rayo against Elche at home.

With Batalla out, set piece delivery will likely fall to Palazón or García from wide areas. Elche have kept two clean sheets in their last three away games (0-0 at Villarreal, a clean sheet against Celta and a draw before that), which could work against them if Rayo score early and force them to come out.

Rayo 2-1 Elche. Rayo's home record against Elche and their ability to find Camello in dangerous positions give them the better of this. Anselmi has improved Elche defensively but losing Ciss, Batalla and Luiz Felipe at once will likely show in Rayo's ability to press high without leaving the back four exposed and the collective pressing game has still won them two of their last four home games despite the absences. Lemar and Niño will test Rayo's defensive shape on the break, particularly if the back line is dragged high but Rayo have generally managed these situations better at Vallecas.
