Flamengo sit atop the Brasileirão after 26 matches with 54 points, a single point ahead of Palmeiras and a win on 13 September 2026 would push that gap to four while keeping the pressure on everyone behind them. The home side have gone W W W L W in their last five to stay in pole position, whereas Corinthians have been inconsistent enough to drift to 12th on 32 points, still chasing European spots under a manager barely five months into the job, with Jardim's side top of the table and Diniz's sitting in twelfth.
Jardim took charge of Flamengo in March 2026, replacing Filipe Luis, while Fernando Diniz arrived at Corinthians in April after Dorival Junior's exit. There is not much head to head data between them yet.
Flamengo come into this having kept clean sheets in all three of their most recent outings: a win over Remo in early September, a 2-0 against Mirassol in the Brasileirao and a 2-0 over Independiente del Valle in the Copa Libertadores quarter finals and they have not conceded once across any of them. These are the players Diniz's system genuinely depends on.
Flamengo press high and wide in a 4-2-3-1, forcing turnovers and transitioning quickly. De Arrascaeta drives the attack, Pedro finishes and Samuel Lino has been a live wire on the left, scoring against Remo and running at defences with the kind of directness that wins games. Corinthians under Diniz want to build from the back and circulate the ball through midfield before committing forward but that is a lot to ask of a team missing Yuri Alberto and Ramalho. Without a natural striker, Depay has no runners around him and will be isolated against two centre backs while Garro and Bidon support from midfield. Flamengo's double pivot will sit between Corinthians' midfield and defence, cutting the passing lane to Depay and forcing long balls and that is where this game could unravel fast.
De Arrascaeta's delivery from corners and free kicks is a problem for a Corinthians side missing the player they would want on the posts in Ramalho and Pedro is a real aerial threat when that delivery arrives on time. The sides drew 1-1 in March 2026, Corinthians won the February Supercopa 2-0 and Flamengo took a 2-1 win in September 2025.
