PSV Eindhoven vs Willem II Prediction: Bosz Side to Dominate New Coach Streppel’s Survival Bid

PSV host bottom club Willem II with Peter Bosz’s high-possession attack expected to overwhelm Jurgen Streppel’s defensive setup in this Eredivisie clash.

ELO head-to-head

How PSV and Willem II compare on rating, form and history.

PSV Eindhoven welcome Willem II to the Philips Stadion on 31 October 2026 with 16 league positions between the sides and, frankly, not much reason to think that gap is about to close. PSV sit third with 20 points from ten Eredivisie games, four behind the top two after drawing 1-1 with Feyenoord on 25 October. Willem II are rock bottom with two points from the same number of matches, coming off a 1-6 hiding from SC Cambuur on 24 October and arriving with a manager, Jurgen Streppel, who has been in the job for all of three days.

PSV's last five reads W-L-W-L-D, mixed enough domestically but including a 1-0 Champions League win over Porto on 21 October. Willem II, by contrast, have lost all five of their last matches in a run that goes some way toward explaining why Stegeman is gone and Streppel is scrambling to organise a defence before Saturday.

Peter Bosz has been at PSV since July 2023 and knows this squad inside out, whereas Streppel was appointed on 28 October 2026, replacing John Stegeman who had himself replaced Adrie Koster's brief interim spell, leaving him essentially no time to implement anything new. PSV are without Jerdy Schouten, out with a knee injury and Ricardo Pepi remains a doubt, though it is Schouten's absence that cuts deepest: he is the midfield anchor who keeps the structure compact and without him Bosz will need to reshuffle his central balance. Willem II have Justin Hoogma out with a knee problem, a headache for a defensive unit already conceding at a worrying rate.

PSV's attacking approach is predictable in the best sense: high possession, full backs in the final third and Guus Til, currently the team's top scorer, operating between the lines. Sergiño Dest should push forward from the right with Ivan Perisic on the left flank. The question of midfield balance without Schouten is real but unlikely to reshape the overall structure. Willem II under Streppel will almost certainly sit deep, having spoken publicly about togetherness and defensive solidarity and given the squad's limitations there is no realistic alternative. He will likely set up in a low block and defend the width of the penalty area, though with roughly two training sessions to work with before kick off, drilling that shape into players who have conceded 27 goals in ten games is a significant undertaking. Devin Haen and Tonny Vilhena will carry most of the burden if Willem II do get on the ball, though whether they can hold anything coherent for 90 minutes against a side pressing this hard at home is another matter entirely.

Til against Willem II's centre backs and defensive midfielders is the game's central chess match. If he finds the pockets between the lines, which he has done consistently this season, Willem II's shape will be stretched and their recovery runs will start to lengthen. Dest's overlapping runs could expose the visitors' left side too, particularly with Hoogma absent and his replacement under pressure from the first whistle.

PSV have the personnel, the manager time and the home record, Willem II have none of those things and Streppel has had roughly two training sessions to install any kind of shape. The absence of Schouten gives PSV a slight imbalance in midfield but Til and Dest provide enough quality to compensate. Expect PSV to have Willem II pinned back inside their own half within fifteen minutes, with the first goal coming from sustained pressure rather than a moment of individual quality. Once ahead, Willem II will need to push out to chase the game, opening gaps for a second and a third that will likely arrive late against tiring legs. PSV win 3-0, cut the deficit to the top two to one point and leave Streppel to begin the genuinely difficult work of keeping his side in the division.
