ELO head-to-head

How Vasco da Gama and Corinthians compare on rating, form and history.

Vasco da Gama host Corinthians at Estádio São Januário on 24 October 2026 in round 32 of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, with both clubs in danger of the drop. Vasco sit 15th on 35 points from 30 games whereas Corinthians are 16th on 33 from 31, separated by just two points and sharing an identical goal difference of minus seven. A defeat for either side opens up a five point gap with six games left, which is probably too far to close. Vasco arrive with three wins from their last five league outings while Corinthians haven't won in five and just changed their manager.

Pedro Emanuel took charge at Vasco in July 2026, replacing Renato Gaúcho, while Clarence Seedorf was appointed at Corinthians on 11 October after Fernando Diniz was let go and the two have never faced each other as managers. Vasco's last five reads L-D-W-W-W, including a 2-1 win over Botafogo, a 0-0 draw with Remo PA and a 0-1 defeat to São Paulo on 18 October, whereas Corinthians have gone L-L-L-L-D, their best result in that stretch a 1-1 draw away to Vitória on 20 October, seven games without a win under the previous regime before Seedorf walks in.

Vasco will be without Andrés Gómez, suspended after accumulating yellow cards and Paulo Henrique, out with a ligament and ankle problem on the right flank. Corinthians are in worse shape: Raniele is ruled out after ankle surgery, Zakaria Labyad misses through injury and Memphis Depay is a doubt with a muscle and knee problem. A team already struggling to score can ill afford to lose two or three of those options.

Vasco typically operate in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 looking to press high and without Gómez, Facundo Colidio carries more responsibility in attack while Robert Renan becomes the player tasked with building from deep. Corinthians under Seedorf are expected to set up in a 4-2-3-1, likely to let Vasco have the ball and defend in a mid block, with Rodrigo Garro dropping to receive, Yuri Alberto staying high and Breno Bidon covering the ground Raniele would normally cover in central midfield. Garro is the player who connects midfield to Yuri Alberto, who leads the line and without Depay there isn't much behind that. The battle in central midfield will largely decide whether Vasco can pin Corinthians back or whether the visitors get the space to spring counters on a team that presses high.

Corinthians have won six of the last seven meetings between the sides, averaging around 3.6 goals per game across those seven, which means Vasco need the first goal, because once Corinthians are defending a draw or a lead, their block becomes harder to break. With both sides missing players who matter in dead ball situations, set pieces could prove decisive: Colidio can win headers at corners, whereas Corinthians lose Raniele's defensive organisation on those same situations.

Vasco da Gama 2-1 Corinthians. Colidio should find the net, a midfield runner should add a second from the space Corinthians' setup tends to leave and Yuri Alberto will probably give the visitors something to celebrate briefly before it's too late. Seedorf may get them organised but he hasn't got the bodies to hold a high line for ninety minutes without Raniele anchoring midfield and possibly without Depay to relieve pressure up front and Vasco should get the three points.
