Mehmeti is the kind of winger who pulls full backs out of shape rather than hugging the line and Knight provides legs and leadership alongside him in the middle. Adebayo brings something different to the front three, holding the ball well enough to draw Portsmouth's centre backs into uncomfortable positions and win the second balls that tend to create Bristol City's clearest chances.
Mousinho's Portsmouth are set up to handle exactly that kind of team. Pack is positionally disciplined and rarely leaves his zone, keeping the defensive shape intact, while Adams presses with enough intensity to win the ball in advanced areas. Segecic is the likeliest source of a Portsmouth goal if Bristol City's press is bypassed, with Mohamed adding another layer of defensive cover after joining from Casa Pia.
The game could turn on the Twine versus Pack contest: if Twine gets time on the ball in pockets of space, Bristol City can sustain their press and create, if Pack cuts the supply, Portsmouth can transition quickly and find Segecic in behind. Adebayo's duel with Portsmouth's centre backs is the other battle to watch, since the second ball situations it generates are where Bristol City tend to look most dangerous.
Bristol City have the better of recent meetings, winning six of the last ten and keeping clean sheets in each of their last three league encounters with Portsmouth.
Bristol City's set piece defending under Skubala is an unknown quantity, which is a concern given that Pack and Adams both arrive from dead balls. Bristol City sit 19th with one point from two games and a home defeat would leave them without a win in three and in the bottom three before the international break.
Portsmouth to win 1-2. Skubala's press will likely generate chances early but Mousinho's shape tends to leave Segecic in acres when the press goes wrong and dead balls are a threat Bristol City's defence has not yet been properly tested by. Portsmouth should nick this.
