How Peterborough United and Luton Town compare on rating, form and history.

Peterborough United host Luton Town at the Weston Homes Stadium on 31 October 2026 in a League One Gameweek 14 fixture that could hardly be more different in tone for the two clubs. Peterborough sit 21st with 10 points from 12 games, deep in the relegation mire and still searching for any consistency under Robbie Savage, appointed on 2 October after replacing Luke Williams. Luton occupy somewhere between 8th and 10th with 20 points and are pushing hard for play off contention and Wilshere has already beaten Peterborough during his time in charge, so the visitors arrive with a psychological edge on top of the league position gap.

Peterborough's last five reads L D L D W and their most recent league result was a 1-1 draw at home to Bromley on 24 October before a 0-2 Carabao Cup defeat to Bradford City three days later. Luton, by contrast, have gone W W W L W in their last five and are riding three consecutive league wins into this one, the latest a 3-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers on 27 October.

The home side have no notable absences, a rare piece of good news for Savage given the injury problems across the division at this point in the season. Harry Leonard, the division's top scorer, returns from suspension and Peterborough need to find him early and often. Ethan Williams operates behind him in the number 10 role, while Lucca Mendonca has been the pick of their defenders. Luton are considerably less fortunate on availability: six players are out through injury or other issues, Sverre Sandal, Benedict Benagr, Shayden Morris, Shandon Baptiste, Hakeem Odoffin and Gideon Kodua and it hurts in midfield more than anywhere else. Nahki Wells and Callum Marshall remain fit and lead the attacking line, with Wells particularly prolific this season but one yellow card or knock in midfield and Wilshere is out of options.

Leonard's return matters tactically because it allows Ethan Williams to drift into pockets of space, while Mendonca's composure at the back means Savage can press aggressively without worrying too much about being caught on the counter. Luton are a more ambitious side going forward and the 3-1 win over Doncaster showed what Wells and Marshall can do when given room in behind, though even with six men out there is enough quality in the remaining group to hurt a Peterborough defence that has looked shaky at times this season. With Morris, Baptiste and Odoffin all unavailable, Luton's midfield rotation is thin and their starters may be running on fumes by the 70th minute if Peterborough keep the tempo high. Savage can change the game from the bench in a way Wilshere simply cannot tonight and if the match tightens in the final quarter, that extra depth could prove decisive.

Luton have the better of the recent head to head meetings, winning 2-1 on 3 April 2026 and 2-0 away on 9 August 2025. They know how to come to this ground and take something.

Luton to win 2-1. Leonard's return means Peterborough have a genuine goal threat for the first time in weeks, which at least forces Luton to defend properly. But the six absences don't strip Luton of their main weapons: if their midfield holds up, Wells and Marshall should be enough. If Peterborough can exploit the thin cover in behind the press, this gets interesting.
