Sheffield Wednesday host Bradford City at Hillsborough on Thursday 20 August 2026, with both clubs arriving in matchweek 2 off the back of opening day wins that already make this more meaningful than most round two fixtures tend to be. Henrik Pedersen and Graham Alexander have no prior head to head record as managers, making Thursday a first meeting. Bannan against Sarcevic in central midfield is the duel that could decide which way this game goes. Bannan has the quality to control tempo and pick passes but Bradford will set up to press him and deny him time on the ball. The more pressing concern for the hosts, though, is how Otegbayo and Swinkels handle Cook and Jackson. Bradford's forwards have the experience to exploit a young defensive partnership in the air, in behind the line and from dead ball situations, an area Bradford have made a point of developing under Alexander.
The clubs have rarely met in recent years, having spent long periods in different divisions. Bradford beat Wednesday 3-1 in the EFL Trophy in August 2022, with older records also favouring the visitors. Neither manager has meaningful league data on the other's setup, which makes Thursday something of an unknown for both dugouts.
