Tactically, Lampard's side are built on structure rather than invention. Set pieces are Coventry's clearest outlet, with Matt Grimes delivering from dead balls and Milan van Ewijk's overlapping runs pushing wide to create crossing angles, though their open play creation has been almost non-existent across the first three matches. With Wright and Eccles out, the variety of running options beyond Awoniyi is limited and Rudoni will have to carry much of the work in behind. Brighton lead the head to head record with five wins to Coventry's two from recent tracked meetings, with three draws in between, including a 3-1 win the last time these clubs met.
Hürzeler's side, when fully fit, press high and move quickly on the turnover but without Mitoma, Minteh and Wieffer, Brighton cannot press with the same intensity or recover their shape as quickly when they lose the ball. Without Mitoma, Minteh, Wieffer and Ferguson, this is a measurably different Brighton side to the one that opened the season with two wins from three and the gap in quality between the squads is smaller than the table positions suggest. The midfield contest will matter more than most, if Ayari can keep Grimes quiet and Brighton win enough of the ball in the middle third, their defensive structure should be solid enough to limit Coventry's dead ball opportunities.
The match kicks off at 14:00/15:00 BST on Sky Sports and Coventry's set piece delivery is realistically their only way into the game given how little they have created from open play. Brighton's injury absences could weaken their dead ball organisation enough to give Lampard's side an opening but Coventry have conceded five goals in three games and have not yet shown they can stay organised for ninety minutes at this level. Brighton's midfield should have enough to keep the ball away from a side yet to create from open play and if the visitors score it is most likely to come from a transitional moment or individual quality rather than sustained build up.
