Foden links the midfield and attack, dropping to receive and then driving forward into the space Cherki vacates and together they will need to force Coventry's back four to choose between tracking Cherki's runs and staying tight to Haaland. Without Doku and Nunes, that responsibility falls squarely on those two.
Lampard's Coventry will likely drop into a 4-5-1 block and give City the ball, then try to hurt them on the break. The loss of Wright removes their best option in behind, so Awoniyi must carry transitions alone and Rudoni and Grimes will need to win the ball in midfield for Coventry to threaten at all, which City's press makes unlikely. If Foden and Cherki can rotate around Haaland and drag Coventry's centre backs into wide areas, City will win comfortably, if Coventry can stay compact and keep Haaland isolated, they at least limit the damage, though their first two games suggest that is about the ceiling of what they can hope for.
Coventry's defensive block will face a City attacking structure it simply does not have the personnel to handle for 90 minutes and set pieces are probably their only realistic way into this game since they have not scored from open play yet and are now without their primary aerial target from dead balls. Wright was the forward tall enough to win those deliveries and Awoniyi is not the same type, which makes Coventry's situation at corners and free kicks significantly worse than it was in August. Haaland's movement from those same situations gives City a reliable delivery target regardless of the scoreline.
Maresca and Lampard have barely crossed paths as managers, so there is no meaningful head to head to work from. The clubs themselves have not met in the Premier League since 2001/02, with their earlier Division One encounters producing a 4-2 City win at home and a 4-3 Coventry win away, though nothing from those games applies to this fixture.
