Wagner has shaped a compact, high energy squad around a clear pressing identity and Captain Lukas Pinckert returns from suspension to anchor the back line, which is some relief given that Luis Seifert (syndesmosis ligament tear and ankle injury) and Tom Zimmerschied (back problem) are both out. Those absences thin the options in central defence and wide areas, leaving Wagner leaning on players whose readiness for Bundesliga pace remains an open question.
Martínez Novell has Robert Andrich sidelined with a muscular thigh issue and Martin Terrier also missing, which leaves the midfield thinner than ideal and will likely push Aleix García into a deeper screening role than he would prefer.
