Excelsior vs Sparta Rotterdam Prediction: Rotterdam Derby Promises Intensity and Goals

The Rotterdam derby returns to the Eredivisie on 29 August 2026, with Excelsior hosting Sparta Rotterdam in Round 4 at the Van Donge & De Roo Stadion. Excelsior are 10th with three points from two matches after promotion from the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, while Sparta sit seventh with four points from three games - and however modest those standings look, derbies between these two sides rarely need additional motivation.

Excelsior's home advantage and direct style should create enough chances to compensate for Naujoks's absence, particularly if Thorsteinsson and the supporting midfielders can capitalise on transitions.
