Dundee United host Falkirk at Tannadice on 5 September 2026. United sit ninth with four points from five games, while Falkirk are eleventh with just one point from four, still without a league win. Neither has had a smooth start but Falkirk's position is more precarious: five players unavailable and nothing on the board at a ground they will struggle to keep their defensive shape at with so many first-teamers out.

The interesting addition is Lyall Cameron, on loan from Rangers, who could make his debut in central midfield and who may offer United a progressive passing option from deep, though how much he can do on debut is genuinely uncertain. What is less uncertain is the structural advantage United have: their opponents are short of cover almost everywhere.
Falkirk prefer a 4-2-3-1 built to be direct, with Brad Spencer anchoring the midfield and Brian Graham leading the line as a target man. New loanee CJ Fodrey is their liveliest attacking option. But with Adams, Laidlaw, Lang, Nesbitt and Yeats all ruled out, they are thin across defence and midfield and that is precisely the kind of structural weakness Ferry is built to exploit.
There is no meaningful managerial head to head between Goodwin and McGlynn, though across 19 meetings between the clubs the record splits almost evenly: United eight wins, Falkirk seven, four draws.
The missing cover across Falkirk's back line is the deciding factor. Graham is capable of winning something from a dead ball and Fodrey gives them a spark but a side that has not scored from open play in four league games while missing five first-teamers is not equipped to take anything at Tannadice. United 2-1.
