How Fenerbahce and Göztepe compare on rating, form and history.

Fenerbahce welcome Göztepe to the Ülker Stadium on 31 October 2026 in a Süper Lig fixture that has taken on extra meaning after a turbulent week. Sitting fifth with 16 points from nine matches, they still have title ambitions but are chasing the leaders rather than setting the pace. The 2-1 derby defeat to Galatasaray on 26 October triggered Ismail Kartal's resignation, leaving Dirk Kuyt to step in as interim boss for his first match in charge. Göztepe arrive tenth on 12 points, having gone five league games unbeaten with wins over Çorum FK, Kocaelispor and Eyüpspor around two draws. Kuyt and Stanimir Stoilov have no prior record against each other, with Kuyt taking charge for the first time since replacing Kartal and Stoilov having been at Göztepe since November 2023.

Fenerbahce's recent form has been mixed, with the derby loss painful but followed by 3-0 wins over Alanyaspor and Rizespor before European results brought them back down to earth: a draw against Slavia Prague and a defeat to Aston Villa. Göztepe are the opposite story, dangerous on the counter and well organised across that five game unbeaten run.

Fenerbahce are without four players: Archie Brown is suspended after his red card against Galatasaray, while Nathan Ake (muscle), Marco Asensio (knee and cartilage) and Jayden Oosterwolde (hamstring) are all absent. Göztepe are short handed too, with Furkan Bayir, Ogun Bayrak and Allan Godoi all out through injury, leaving Stoilov with a thinner pool in both defence and midfield.

Kuyt is expected to keep Fenerbahce's 4-2-3-1 shape, with N'Golo Kante and Matteo Guendouzi forming the double pivot that now carries extra responsibility given how badly depleted the back four is. Kante's positional discipline should free Guendouzi to feed Irfan Can Kahveci, who picks up Asensio's creative duties behind the strikers. Göztepe's 3-4-1-2 relies on aggressive pressing from the wide midfielders and quick combinations between Juan and Andre Henrique and they will look to exploit the space that Fenerbahce's attacking full backs tend to vacate.

Juan, who has six goals this season, is the focal point of their attack and if Alexis Antunes can supply him consistently there is a real threat in behind a high Fenerbahce line. Mason Greenwood's movement between the lines is the creative outlet Fenerbahce will lean on most heavily: when he receives the ball facing goal, the supporting numbers around him usually allow him to pull in Lukaku or Kahveci for clear chances. Göztepe have kept clean sheets in three of their last five league games but losing Bayir, Bayrak and Godoi removes experienced cover, meaning any red card or in-game injury would force Stoilov into uncomfortable reshuffles he has no good answer for.

Fenerbahce have historically dominated this fixture, though recent meetings have been tighter. A 1-1 draw in January 2026 and a 0-0 in August 2025 showed Göztepe can frustrate them but both results came under different Fenerbahce management and Kuyt's preference for high pressing and quick ball circulation could break down the compact 3-4-1-2 more effectively than his predecessor managed.

With Asensio out, Kahveci takes over corner and free kick duties. Göztepe's zonal marking has looked vulnerable to near post runs and Lukaku's aerial presence at corners gives Fenerbahce a secondary route to goal. Göztepe's counter attacks tend to start from quick throws or goal kicks, so the full backs will need to track Juan carefully when Antunes finds him in behind the line.

There is pressure on Fenerbahce to deliver a performance that erases the memory of the derby defeat and Kuyt needs a result to establish himself quickly, whereas Göztepe's unbeaten run gives them real belief even if three long term absences could limit what Stoilov can ask of his bench if the game opens up.

Fenerbahce 3-0 Göztepe. Home advantage, a depleted visiting squad and Kuyt's need to make an immediate impression all favour the hosts. Fenerbahce should control possession and create enough clear chances for Greenwood and Lukaku to score, with their restructured midfield well placed to deal with whatever Göztepe's counter attacking game produces.
