Galatasaray vs Fenerbahçe Prediction: Derby Six-Pointer Shapes Title Race

Tactical breakdown and 1-2 score prediction for the Super Lig clash between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe on 26 October 2026.

ELO head-to-head

How Galatasaray and Fenerbahce compare on rating, form and history.

Three points separate second from third in the Super Lig going into matchday 9 and Galatasaray sit on 19 points from eight matches with Fenerbahçe three points behind on 16. Neither can afford to drop further ground on Amed SK, who lead with 20 points from nine games: a Fenerbahçe win here closes the gap to nothing, while a Galatasaray win puts them within a point of the top.

Okan Buruk has been at Galatasaray since July 2022 and has generally had the better of his Fenerbahçe counterparts, whereas İsmail Kartal only took charge in June 2026 after Domenico Tedesco's spell ended in April, with Zeki Murat Göle stepping in as interim. That continuity gap matters: Buruk knows this fixture, the stadium and the atmosphere intimately, while Kartal has spent barely four months with the squad and has not yet managed this game once.

Galatasaray's last five league games read W-W-L-W-W, the most recent a narrow 1-0 over Gençlerbirliği on 17 October. Fenerbahçe's run over the same period reads W-W-W-D-L and includes an 8-0 demolition of Eyüpspor, still the largest winning margin in the division this season, alongside a more routine 3-0 over Alanyaspor on 17 October.

Both squads arrive depleted. Galatasaray are sweating on Rafael Leão (groin/hip) and Barış Alper Yılmaz (Achilles) and losing both wide attackers forces Buruk into a more central, less fluid attack. Fenerbahçe's absentee list is longer: Marco Asensio is out long term after knee cartilage surgery, Nathan Aké is sidelined for around three weeks with a hamstring problem, Mert Müldür has a meniscus issue, Jayden Oosterwolde is unavailable and Amara Diouf is doubtful. Replacing Aké and Oosterwolde simultaneously is a significant challenge and it is not yet clear who Kartal will turn to at left and right of his defence.

Galatasaray's 4-2-3-1 is built around Victor Osimhen up front, with Gabriel Sara and Leroy Sané providing support and Lucas Torreira anchoring the midfield. Without Leão and Yılmaz, the width narrows considerably and Fenerbahçe will know that central blocking is their priority. Fenerbahçe press high in the same shape, with Vedat Muriqi (seven league goals already) leading the line and Mason Greenwood drifting into the right channel to carry the ball at defenders, while N'Golo Kanté and Matteo Guendouzi run the midfield. Without Asensio, the creative burden falls almost entirely on Greenwood and with Aké and Oosterwolde both absent, Galatasaray's full backs will push forward knowing there is limited cover behind them. Muriqi's ability to run in behind a high line against a reshuffled back four is probably the individual contest that decides the match.

Galatasaray won the last Super Lig meeting 3-0 at Rams Park in April 2026 and have won six of their eight home matches across all competitions this season, though a result that emphatic against Fenerbahçe is far from the norm for this fixture.

This feels like a match where the injury list tilts things more than the form table does. Galatasaray's attack without Leão and Yılmaz is narrower and more predictable and the space that opens behind their full backs when they push forward is where the game could turn. Muriqi in behind a reshuffled Galatasaray back line is the likeliest route to a Fenerbahçe goal and Kartal's side have shown they can score even when shorthanded, given that the 8-0 was not a fluke of finishing. Osimhen and set pieces will give Galatasaray their own openings and they will probably convert one but a narrow away win is the more likely outcome. Galatasaray 1-2 Fenerbahçe.
