Gençlerbirliği vs Kasımpaşa Prediction: Can Diyadin's Side Build on Early Promise?

A tactical deep-dive into the Süper Lig clash at Eryaman Stadyumu, where Gençlerbirliği host Kasımpaşa in Matchweek 5.

ELO head-to-head

How Gençlerbirliği and Kasımpaşa compare on rating, form and history.

Gençlerbirliği welcome Kasımpaşa to Eryaman Stadyumu on 13 September 2026 sitting eighth with seven points from four games, while Kasımpaşa are one place below on six, still unbeaten but yet to win and carrying an injury list that has already complicated Belözoğlu's plans.

There is no meaningful head-to-head data on Metin Diyadin versus Emre Belözoğlu as managers, since Diyadin only took charge at Gençlerbirliği on 6 May 2026 after replacing Volkan Demirel and Belözoğlu has led Kasımpaşa since 5 December 2025 when he took over from Şota Arveladze.

Gençlerbirliği's recent results are so mixed they are almost contradictory. They beat Fenerbahçe 2-1 on 15 August 2026 and followed that up with a 1-0 win over Göztepe, which looked like the start of something, before a 1-1 draw with Erzurumspor FK and a 0-5 thumping from Trabzonspor on 6 September brought things back to earth. The pattern is already there: they punish teams on the break but concede badly when opponents pin them back.

Kasımpaşa have collected one win from four, three draws and no defeats, which suggests they are better at not losing than at winning. Their most recent outing was a 2-2 away to Amedspor on 6 September and Benedyczak's three goals across those four games is the most coherent attacking thread they have shown.

Gençlerbirliği are without two players who matter to how they set up. Cheikh Niasse is out injured, removing cover in defensive midfield, while Kévin Rodrigues is also unavailable, leaving the left flank short of the overlapping runs and delivery he provides.

Kasımpaşa's injury list is longer and more damaging. Haris Hajradinović is sidelined with a muscle/calf problem expected to keep him out until mid September, Mortadha Ben Ouanes and Thiemoko Diarra are also out and Kamil Çörekçi remains unavailable with an Achilles issue that looks like it will drag on. Between them, these absences strip Kasımpaşa of depth in midfield and wide areas when they can least afford it.

Gençlerbirliği tend to set up in a 4 3 3 or 4 1 4 1, with aerial duels, set pieces and quick transitions doing most of their damage. Dimitrios Goutas leads the defence in the air, İrfan Can Eğribayat is reliable in goal and the front three of Adama Traoré, Franco Tongya and Sekou Koita have been their most productive outlet early in the season, with Tongya the sharpest of the three.

Without Niasse and Rodrigues, Diyadin will need to reconfigure his midfield balance and find left sided width from whoever is available, likely pushing wider players higher to compensate and leaning on Goutas to win second balls that trigger the counter.

Kasımpaşa prefer a 4 2 3 1 or 4 3 3 built around Demirbay's ability to control tempo from deep and Benedyczak's hold up play. Andreas Gianniotis starts in goal, Kerem Demirbay is the engine of their midfield invention and Andri Baldursson covers defensively alongside him.

Losing Hajradinović hurts Kasımpaşa's ability to unlock compact blocks, pushing more responsibility onto Benedyczak's hold up play and Baldursson's screening duties. That could give Gençlerbirliği's central midfielders more room to press higher up the pitch and force turnovers before Kasımpaşa can settle into their build up.

Individually, Goutas versus Benedyczak in the air will shape second phase chances, while Traoré's pace against Kasımpaşa's right sided defenders is worth watching given that Hajradinović's absence reduces cover across the whole midfield. Demirbay's ability to find pockets of space will test whether Gençlerbirliği can hold their shape without Niasse and that is the most interesting battle given what both teams are missing.

The recent history favours Gençlerbirliği, who won 3-2 in May 2026 before the two sides played out a 0-0 in December 2025, with set piece execution and late composure proving decisive each time.

Gençlerbirliği's aerial strength makes them dangerous from corners and free kicks, particularly with Goutas and the forward line attacking deliveries, whereas Kasımpaşa will look to exploit loose marking when transitioning out of their own defensive set pieces.

Gençlerbirliği 2-1 Kasımpaşa. The pace Traoré and Koita carry on the break, combined with Kasımpaşa's injury thinned midfield, means Gençlerbirliği should have enough to win it, with their set pieces and transitions the most likely source of goals. Benedyczak's early season record (three goals in four) makes a Kasımpaşa consolation likely enough but Belözoğlu looks set to keep waiting for that first win.
