Detailed tactical preview of Kocaelispor vs Çaykur Rizespor in the Süper Lig, with analysis of form, absences and a 2-1 score prediction.

ELO head-to-head

How Kocaelispor and Rizespor compare on rating, form and history.

Kocaelispor host Çaykur Rizespor at Yıldız Entegre Kocaeli Stadyumu on 31 October 2026 in Süper Lig Matchday 10, a fixture that matters more to one side than the other. Kocaelispor sit seventh with 15 points from nine games and have been harder to score against on their own turf than away, a home defensive record solid enough to keep them in the top half under Selçuk İnan, who has been in charge since July 2025. Rizespor are 13th with 10 points and have shipped nine goals in their last three matches under Recep Uçar, who has been managing the club since December 2025, so this is less a contest between equals and more a question of whether the visitors can get through ninety minutes without conceding three.

Kocaelispor's last five league results went W-L-L-W-L, so it's not exactly relentless momentum but they beat Alanyaspor 2-1 on 23 October having lost 1-2 at Göztepe five days earlier. The clean sheets at home stand out above anything else, pointing to a team that knows how to defend its own ground even when results elsewhere are inconsistent. Rizespor, meanwhile, are in freefall: their 3-4 loss to Trabzonspor on 26 October extended a winless run that looks alarming given they've conceded nine goals in three matches.

Massadio Haïdara is out with a long term muscle and tendon rupture, Tanguy Zoukrou will not be back until around 8 November with a torn thigh muscle and Bruno Petković is sidelined through hamstring and fitness issues, three absences İnan must manage going into this. Losing two defenders and a forward of Petković's type hurts but Kocaelispor have enough at home to absorb it.

Uçar's situation is arguably worse: Khusniddin Alikulov is out with an ACL injury, Ahmed Kutucu is missing with a thigh and knee problem and Can Bozdogan is unavailable due to ankle complaints, which strips out cover across the back, the middle and the wide areas at once and makes a trip to a defensively organised home side feel about as difficult as it gets.

Kocaelispor set up in a 4-3-3 and without Haïdara and Zoukrou the back four is untested against a side that, however depleted, still carries Gennaro Borrelli. Berkan Kutlu is the player to watch in midfield, with Florian Ayé and Gonçalo Sousa working the forward line around him. Rizespor's 4-2-3-1 depends on control through the centre but losing Bozdogan, Alikulov and Kutucu leaves that central corridor undermanned, pushing Qazim Laçi to cover far more ground than usual while also carrying more of the goal threat from deep. Borrelli, who scored twice against Trabzonspor, tends to drop deep and link play rather than operate as a static striker, while Valentin Mihaila adds width on the flank. If Kutlu can win the ball in that central corridor while Laçi is already stretched covering for the missing Bozdogan, Rizespor's structure could unravel quickly enough that the scoreline gets away from them.

The most recent meeting went Rizespor's way with a 2-0 win on 20 February 2026, whereas the previous encounter at Kocaelispor's ground on 21 September 2025 ended 1-1 and the defensive structure İnan has built since then makes any direct comparison between the two results difficult to sustain.

Rizespor have struggled with crosses and second balls all season and losing Alikulov makes them even more exposed in those situations. Kocaelispor's compact shape allows quick releases into wide areas from dead balls and they know exactly where the weakness is. A 3-0 cup win over Mazıdağı Fosfatspor adds to the picture of a side that has kept clean sheets at home even through an inconsistent away run, while Uçar will be managing his sideline role more carefully after his sending off against Trabzonspor.

Kocaelispor 2-1 Rizespor. Rizespor will likely concede from a set piece or a transitional moment and, given their recent form, may well concede again before the hour. Borrelli scoring twice last week is the only reason to consider a Rizespor goal, if Kocaelispor push too hard for a second, he is the type to punish overcommitment. But Rizespor shipping nine goals in three games while missing three first choice players on the road settles it. Kocaelispor in two.
