Tactical breakdown, team news and score prediction for Lincoln City vs West Ham United in the Championship on 14 October 2026.

ELO head-to-head

How Lincoln City and West Ham United compare on rating, form and history.

Lincoln City host West Ham United at Sincil Bank on 14 October 2026 in Championship Matchweek 10. Lincoln came up as League One champions last season with 103 points and sit 16th on 11 points from nine games, whereas West Ham, freshly relegated from the Premier League, are already third with 16 points and 23 goals to their name. The visitors need this win to stay in touch with the automatic spots.

Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw took joint charge of Lincoln on 29 May 2026 after replacing Michael Skubala, while Nuno Espirito Santo has been in the West Ham dugout since 27 September 2025 after succeeding Graham Potter. There is no previous head to head between the two setups.

Lincoln arrive having won two and lost three of their last five, the most recent a 0-3 home thrashing by Sheffield United on 10 October, whereas West Ham's sequence reads W W L D D, ending with a 1-1 draw away to QPR on 9 October. Lincoln have shown they can grind out home wins but stay vulnerable when teams press them in transition, while West Ham have recovered from a brief dip and are scoring freely enough that a Lincoln defence having conceded three to Sheffield United six days earlier is unlikely to feel comfortable for long.

Lincoln are without Tendayi Darikwa (cruciate, out until around June 2027) and Mason Melia (thigh), while Reece Hackett is a doubt with concussion. Losing Darikwa is the bigger concern: he anchored the three man backline and was the most experienced defender in the squad. West Ham are missing Tomas Soucek, sidelined long term with an ankle injury, which changes the midfield shape Nuno has been using but leaves the attacking options untouched.

Lincoln set up in a compact 3-4-2-1, sitting deep, denying space between the lines and looking to hit on the counter through Chiedozie Ogbene's pace, with Adam Reach driving things from midfield and Rob Street leading the line. Without Darikwa anchoring the backline, they could look far less assured when West Ham sustain pressure for long spells. Jarrod Bowen cutting inside to link with Taty Castellanos is the mechanism West Ham lean on most and Soucek's absence may push Nuno toward more technical midfielders, opening up more balls into channels for both forwards to run onto. Konstantinos Mavropanos adds a serious aerial threat from centre back at set pieces. Bowen against Lincoln's central defenders is the battle most likely to decide the game: if Lincoln fall behind and are forced to push higher, they create exactly the space Bowen and Castellanos want and Reach already has a lot on his plate tracking runners from deep while simultaneously supporting the counter through Ogbene.

The most recent meeting between the sides was an EFL Cup tie on 27 September 2023, which West Ham won 1-0, though a single narrow result from a different competition tells you little about what to expect here.

Set pieces are Lincoln's primary route to goal and Darikwa's absence hurts them at both ends of the pitch, disrupting delivery and removing their most reliable aerial presence. West Ham will look to use Mavropanos in attacking set piece situations as well, with Rob Street the most likely aerial target for Lincoln from corners. Cohen and Shaw have settled on a consistent XI and a defined defensive shape since taking over in May but that shape is now missing its organiser.

Bowen and Castellanos operating either side of a Lincoln backline missing Darikwa should generate enough chances to kill the game before the hour mark. Even if Lincoln nick something from a set piece or a breakaway, West Ham have the quality to respond and pull clear and a back three that shipped three to Sheffield United six days earlier, without its organiser and potentially without Hackett too, is unlikely to hold for long. Lincoln City 0-3 West Ham United.
