Norwich City host Southampton at Carrow Road on 14 October 2026, Championship matchweek 10. Norwich sit 18th with nine points from nine games, having lost four in a row, whereas Southampton arrive 11th on 13 points, carrying a four point deduction for Spygate breaches but buoyed by a 1-0 derby win over Portsmouth last weekend.
Philippe Clement and Tonda Eckert have never faced each other in management, so there is nothing to read into there.

Norwich's recent form reads L L L L W, with their last outing a 1-2 defeat at Swansea City on 10 October that stretched the losing run to four straight. Southampton's form line is W L W W D, capped by that narrow win against Portsmouth on 11 October and they have been the more productive side across nine games even accounting for the points penalty.
Norwich are without Mohamed Toure (shoulder surgery, back in January) and Mirko Topic (cruciate ligament), which strips them of natural width on the left and a reliable ball winner in midfield. Southampton miss Mads Roerslev with a long term knee problem and Caspar Jander with a hamstring injury, forcing Eckert to lean on less familiar options at full back and in central midfield.
Clement has used a 4-2-3-1 at Norwich, though without Toure and Topic that shape loses its main width option on the left and the midfielder who screened the back four. Jovon Makama should lead the line with Oscar Schwartau running from midfield while Jacob Wright, who scored against Swansea, makes late runs beyond the striker. Norwich's defence has conceded repeatedly when opponents move the ball into wide areas and run in behind, which is the sort of game Southampton are set up to play.
Eckert's Southampton play a direct, fast-transitioning 4-2-3-1 and it has produced 20 goals in nine games. Cyle Larin, with seven of those already this season, is exactly the profile to punish a high line. James Ward-Prowse supplies creativity and set piece delivery from deep while Finn Azaz has been productive from the ten. The absences of Roerslev and Jander will slow their build up and leave gaps on the counter, though probably not enough to change the overall picture.
The midfield contest between Ward-Prowse and Wright is central to how this plays out. If Wright can get tight to Ward-Prowse and disrupt his rhythm, Norwich might generate something for Makama. If he cannot and Ward-Prowse and Azaz link up in the half-spaces, Larin will find himself in behind the last defender, which is where he has done most of his damage this season.
Southampton have won three of the last five meetings against Norwich's two and given the current state of both sides, there is little reason to expect that trend to reverse here.

Ward-Prowse delivering set pieces into a Norwich side that has already looked vulnerable from dead balls is the match-up the hosts can least afford. Topic's absence makes it harder still: Norwich will struggle to win second balls in midfield and in a game that could turn scrappy, that is a significant problem.
Norwich City 1-2 Southampton. Four straight losses, Toure and Topic both out and a defence that has been repeatedly exposed when opponents switch the ball quickly and run in behind: it all points the same way. Larin and Azaz are exactly the type of players to find the gaps Norwich have been conceding, Ward-Prowse should have time on the ball to pick passes in behind and play Larin through and the set piece threat alone makes this uncomfortable for Norwich even before open play is considered. Norwich will probably pull one back through a dead ball or a counter but Southampton's defensive record in the second half of games and their ability to see out results away from home suggest they leave Carrow Road with all three points.
